How far would you drive a tractor home vs a trailer?

Did 30 miles on a Deere Model-R days before thanksgiving 2005, no electric lights just a Coleman lantern on the back of the trailer with the Ford pickup on it that threw a rod halfway home. What a miserable ride that was.

    Coming Soon to my driveway

That's a good question and I guess we'll find out once I get it moving. I didn't dig very deep into anything when I did the looksie and snapped the few photos but nothing would surprise me here really, just grabbed the belt and gave it a yank to see if the motor would turn and went to do some...

    Coming Soon to my driveway

So I'm working with a '45 vintage 2N, was going on the first digits of the serial number. This one is gonna take some work getting out of its resting place and down the road considering the sheer volume of everything in the way. It arrived not running but not a big deal for me, 1945 simplicity...

    Coming Soon to my driveway

A 9N disguised as a red belly. Know little about it and I will post more in the coming weeks. At first I thought it was an early 8N but clearly it's an imposter. 6 volt electrics, no spark but it does turn well and it appears to be complete, going to have my fat kitty do a cat scan to see what's...

    Going crazy with ignition problems

Mine started cold without any torches on the manifold, just set the throttle to about 1/3 scale and cranked pulling the choke for two cylinders and open again and poof it starts. See for yourself.

    Smoke but good compression

What's the wall wear on the steel sleeves compared to the later iron sleeves hours being equal?

    Smoke but good compression

My 8N smoked white for a while after sitting for some time and at first I thought it was anti-freeze but it eventually cleared up and has not returned. Now looking at those pistons I'd really looking for another set of rings and passing a ball hone down the holes.

    8N ignition key

Or you could just eliminate the key switch and go with a standard toggle switch as I did on my 8N. In my 56 years I've never heard of a tractor being stolen around here... someone did try to steal a diesel oldsmobile years ago but that was a thief without scruples and never got it started.

    I hate Kwik Trip

Didn't remember it being Mobil, I was a teen in those days when the Burger Top was still around... not always edible but we didn't have a Kwik Trip.

    I hate Kwik Trip

It's been a while for me but I'm thinking of what is now that private Chrysler museum. They had two pumps out front with the manual reset knobs on the side. Isanti Implement I want to say, had a Wheel Horse sign on the east side. Been almost 40 years now for me. I spent several years over at...

    I hate Kwik Trip

They're all but gone from around here. We have a Coborn's in town, Walmart in Pine City and Cambridge and I don't do anything with Amazon. One of our two "hometown" hardware stores burned last summer so it's the ACE on Union, good people who hire the kids in town. I guess the what's really...

    I hate Kwik Trip

Problem I have with KT is they're popping up like weeds all over the place and killing off the locals. I'm in Mora MN right across from the KT on Hwy 65 and the traffic in and out of there is nothing short of madness on the weekends. The local Marathon station closed up completely and the...

Did a little plowing in the snow last night

Well I didn't plow the snow under the ground but did give the 8N a good workout during our recent snowfall here in Mora MN. All said we got 5.5" starting wet & sloppy then everything froze down good really making the tractor grunt, I'm scraping a commercial lot with a 72" grader blade then...

    Ok. What's the secret???

Hard to say, I know Ford wasn't into spending anything extra on the production line but if the loose drums were taking up production time (falling off ect) I could see this. Now am I the only one here that doesn't have leaky axle seals or did I get really lucky?
