    B&S running rich and surging

Well, putting the original float needle valve back in, worked to fix the carb leaking gas out on the mower deck. Cut grass with the machine for about an hour, and the motor performed as good, maybe better than it has since I've had it. So, FINALLY I have a smooth running machine again. Thanks to...

    B&S running rich and surging

Oh, that's good to know. Sounds like a poor design.

    B&S running rich and surging

A couple days later, I learned from YouTube University that I was not installing the main jet properly. It doesn't insert into the end if the brass emulsion tube as I thought I found it, it goes o-ring end first, down into the plastic housing "well" where the emulsion tube also inserts during...

    B&S running rich and surging

Today I took the knockoff carb, which appears to be running way too lean, off the engine. I put my original Nikki carb back on after installing the main jet as seen on YouTube, putting a new fuel inlet needle valve in it, new spider web gasket, and new o-ring on the main jet. I bolted it all up...

    B&S running rich and surging

You're right, it is a 12hp single cylinder Briggs. Oil does look horrible, but no sign of gas contamination in it. I recall replacing the oil last year and after just a couple of short runs operating, it was black again as if it hadn't been changed in years. I thought that was oddly quick. I...

    B&S running rich and surging

I got that knock-off carb installed. Similar problem, it’ll run while chocked, but now occasionally has very loud backfire. Have to keep it partially choked to get it to run, so I think it’s way too lean. Oh well, $14 carb was worth a shot. I went to YouTube University last night and learned...

    B&S running rich and surging

Good thought. I had ordered a new carb kit for it which included a new 'spider web o-ring gasket'. The problem with the new kit was it didn't have a proper size o-ring for the fuel jet itself. It was supposed to, but it wouldn't fit down into the emulsion tube, so I had to use a similar but...

    B&S running rich and surging

This Nikki carb is new enough that the internals lower half, that house the float and seat are made of plastic. The seat is plastic, the needle valve is rubber tipped. The needle tip looked just fine, I really didn't closely inspect the seat though. The fuel jet is brass. as is the emulsion tube...

    B&S running rich and surging

I don't know about the filter being the correct one or not. It has been on the mower several years and has worked up until the recent issue this year. I did notice air bubbling thru it yesterday at some point though.

Oh, I am ordering a new knock- off Chinese carb to see if that'll do the trick.

    B&S running rich and surging

Mid-2000s Briggs Model 217802-0145e9 with a Nikki carb, no numbers on the carb. I've been in the carb 2x so far, found some o-ring issues in there and corrected them. Carb interior was surprisingly clean. Confirmed all ports are open with tiny wire and carb cleaner. Engine fires up fine, idles...

Great! We'll see about testing later this week...and go from there. Thank you!

    Farmall H ??

My friend is not completely satisfied with the performance of the H. He says he just doesn't think it has the POWER it used to have. So, I'm wondering about cylinder compression values for these old tractors. I know I don't have the compression I once had....i'm getting OLD. But how about these...

    Farmall H ??

Ok, we got the Farmall H running again as discussed previously in these forums, when the carburetor was having problems. Engine is running well now, idles real smooth, and the governor will demand power from the engine when a load is put on it. But, here's the new question???????? Is this old...

    Inline Fuel filter

Hey, I like this idea "stop looking at it""...since the tractor is running like it's supposed to now, no need to worry about how much fuel is in the inlet line. It's got enough to run...what else could a guy want... Thanks for all the feedback....I didn't mean to create a firestorm amongst...
