Ford 3600 backfiring and losing it...

Well, thank you everybody. I am cautiously optimistic. This is what I did, in case this helps others: 1. Cleaned the carb (it looked pretty good) 2. Installed a new cork gasket at the bottom of the sheet metal circle at the base of the carb (that was in HORRIBLE shape; many sizes too big, only...

Not that my wife and I could discern. Cork gasket underneath carb was totally out. It's 90% better. Still misfires and pops when throttling up but doesn't stall out now. Fuel pump, ignition coil, and fuel peacock are next. Thank you!

Ford 3600 backfiring and losing it...

I made my own gasket to replace the huge one. It's running 90% better now, between cleaning the carb and replacing that gasket. It still pops when I idle up, but now I can even it out or out enema itself out. I ran it for a couple of hours today. Idles beautifully! Towards the end, I ran it at...

Take a look at the pristine state of this cork gasket at the bottom! It's not even close. Good call on that one.

It definitely has that circular sheet at the bottom. There was some gas dripping from the bolt at the base of the carb-or possibly a leaking gasket. It was dropping right onto the side of the coil. Carb is coming apart soon. I will update.

I suspect more than one problem... the distributor looks new. If I wanted to check the weights, would I take the cap off and dig to below the points assembly? I've never been deeper than the points in a distributor. If it was you, would you mark the distributor's position and dismount it for...

Ford 3600 backfiring and losing it...

I saw a guy that had some similar problems to mine but it wasn't quite the same and never heard if he figured it out. Idid research on her before posting. :) It's a Holley carb with a compression fitting at the carb inlet. Tractor is going to be for my second son to take hay with, pull a wood...

I will report back tomorrow morning on that too. It is still whole for now.

I will check! The hoses to the carb looked really good. I'll check the manifold tomorrow morning.

Ford 3600 backfiring and losing it...

Hello! I have a new-to-me Ford 3600. The model # is CA223C, Engine 8C28B (3 cylinder gas). It will start with choke (hasn't run in a couple of years). At first, it idled OK. When moving throttle lever to higher RPM, though, little to nothing happens for the first half of throw, then the governor...

    Ford LT11 with Briggs question

Yes, that's the manual I have. The exploded views are helpful for parts numbers, but it doesn't show linkages and how things go together, which is where I'm mentally deficient. :) Thanks!

    Ford LT11 Lawn Tractor

Just posted there. I saw the top of the list, then it looked like it went into standard help and support stuff, so I figured it was the end of the list. Thank you!

    Ford LT11 with Briggs question

Hoping someone can help with what's hopefully easy. I have an '86 Ford LT11 lawn tractor, with an ~11hp Briggs and Stratton 253707, type 0132-01. Obviously way out of production, but I can find parts pretty easily and it's for my boy. I had to replace the carburetor (throttle and choke shaft...
