    Thanks for the answer but don't understand how the hydraulics will stop it from spinning. The pump is mounted up front, just nothing that I can think of that would stop the trans. from spinning. I have a manual but was unable to tell if this trans. has synchronizers.

    I was thinking of a different tractor with the way the PTO is engaged. On this JD it has a piston that is part of the throw out bearing that does it, hydraulic as Tim mentioned. Does anyone know of anything I can check on this before splitting it and replacing the clutch?

    This tractor has a two stage clutch, I am the one who bought it and installed it for him last year. The very top inch of of the clutch pedal travel engages the PTO clutch. I am looking for any reasons why this clutch is slipping already.
