Ever see a vise like this ?

It would make sense for Starrett to put their name on Athol vises. Both companies are located in Athol, but the Starretts look more like Yosts. Appearance alone is as far as I can go with identification of the maker of Starrett's vises.

Ever see a vise like this ?

They are useful for holding odd shaped, tapered pieces. Starrett sold a similar one while they were selling vices. I think the Starretts were made by Yost.

Auto engine shut off and start up

The feature is on our 2017 F-150 - no problems yet. The starter motor is used; you can hear it but it only cranks for a fraction of a second. There is a button on the dash to push that will disable the feature until the engine is stopped with the key. Then the feature automatically comes...

    Old Monkey Wrench

I believe whoever made those wrenches would put anyone's name on them. I have the same two wrenches marked Buhl Sons Co. Buhl was a hardware wholesaler out of Detroit. If anyone is interested, I have a lot of information/history on the Buhl company.

    Cheap mics

Starrett, Brown & Sharp and other expensive mics are made for industrial use. They see more use in a month than most of us will expose ours to in a lifetime. The difference in price is a measure of the tools ability to hold tolerance over time. The inexpensive ones do not have the service...

    Ammo Question

Brass height has no influence on function. If you are not on your property you had better have a hunting license. Hunting open season varmints requires a license in most states. Even if you only went out to shoot cactus its up to the game warden to believe you.

    Shop Vac Recomendation

2X on Fein. They are expensive, quiet, good draw and you will never have a problem with it. Quiet is what sold me on a Fein. They are that way by design. Anyone could make a quiet vac but a lot of people mistakenly equate noise with power.

    A Shop...the little things

Include your wife. Ask her if she would like space for her projects. Three foot eaves. Draw out the floor-plan, include the space occupied by wall benches, and make scale-sized, card cutouts of the foot print of every floor tool and floor work-bench. Set them in place and see if what you have...

    Adams-Farwell Rotary Engined Auto ...

The mass of the rotating engine produced an enormous amount of counter-torque. In an aircraft, it was not possible to make a sharp turn opposite the direction of engine rotation. In WWI, enemy pilots would set up their attacks to take advantage of this limitation. Take-offs required a very...

    Portable Boring

That's a big hole. It will be hard to enlarge the existing hole without any material to hold the center of the six inch hole saw. You will have to weld a strip of material across the hole for that. Again, that's a big hole. How about cutting it out with a torch?
