Anybody else still using a coal shovel?

I used to buy lots of shovels, spades, rakes, forks, etc at farm auctions, with the intention of refurbishing them. Some I haven't. One I'm showing belonged to a railroad (Chicago,Rock Island & Pacific). This RR used this name from 1851 to 1933. So this shovel has got to be an oldie! A later...

Pictures from 1949 Successful Farm Magazine

al1933---Just a couple comments----I had an older brother as a model, driving a Studebaker truck in the late 40's---actual picture intended for advertising purposes. I don't have that pic, but his son has it. About that same period of time, I remember riding with him as he was hauling a...

Today's Feature The Best Prank You Pulled

Mail carrier"s Jeep::Removed sparkplug wire insulation the span of an inch or so. Fastened a small chain to the bare part---just long enough to drag on the ground. Taped up the sp wire. Then wait for a rain or snow to wet the ground. Effect? Soon as the guy touches the first metal box, he gets...

An Early Seed Corn Plant 1927 pic

John---I've never seen this arrangement of saving ears of corn for next year's seed. But I remember all the finishing nails driven into the rafters close together and at a shallow depth---for the purpose of impaling the healthy corncobs onto them. This for next year's planting.

New Idead #17 Spreader Need Info

Can't help you on the engagement apparatus, but on the the floor conveyor---the slats should have the vertical portion of the slat towards the rear of the spreader.

IH McCormick Model 200 Manure Spreader

BRET----If you change the chain to #67, you"ll have to change the sprockets as well. #67 chain WILL NOT work on "S" sprockets without damage being done.

IH McCormick Model 200 Manure Spreader

Forrest---Checked my spreader to make sure---There are 13 slats on a Mod 200 spreader---and there are 5 links between the slat links. If you happen to need certain other parts for this spreader, I might have what you are looking for. Martin

Question for Picture of the day viewers

SF---Forgot about another camera we have---one we bought to celebrate our 40th anniv. It's an X370 Minolta. It has lenses of 35 to 75mm wide angle, and 75 to 200mm telescopic. And a few filters, and a flash. Haven't used more than 6 or 7 rolls of film in it because it was too complicated. If...

Question for Picture of the day viewers

SF---Thanks for your response! Yes, I like the Canon for close shots and for dimly-lit occasions. You asked for pics of barns and old stuff. Most of the meaningful pictures are locked in the stereo slides, and there's no way I can get prints from them. If you have any idea at all how I can get...

Question for Picture of the day viewers

SweetFeet---It's ironic that you have the triple interests of IHC Regulars, old barns, and cameras. In 1944 the first tractor I drove was a steel-wheeled Regular, plowing w/a 2-bottom plow. Stayed out of school 25 days that year to help my dad farm. (It was legal back then). In '68 I tore down...

    Removing Woods 1020 Loader

Not knowing ANYTHING about you situation, I'm wondering if you could'nt drill a hole in the obstructing frame, large enough to gain access to the starter bolt. My philosophy is---"gotta do what you gotta do".

    This old house part two

SF---Those are not shutters---they are louvers mounted rigidly, to allow ventilation in the attic and to keep rain and birds out.

    not taking any sides

I want to commend SweetFeet and Nancy for their meaningful contributions to YT---both for the comments and the excellent pictures. You're a real asset. And there are many others who fit this category, but I think these ladies are special.

    Old Style Side Delivery Rakes

Al---Looks like your rake in the pic is a 3-bar rake, and I assume it's a NI. I have a 4-bar NI that I tore apart several years with the idea of refurbishing it. That never happened, but now I'd like to be able to reassemble it, but I don't know where to start. Could you send me some good...
