Smart Phone, stuff everyone knows but me.

As we all favor. Though my horseless carriage doesn't eat and ____ when not working. Now that everybody has a high def video camera, why aren't there any flying saucers photos?

Lawn mower (tractor) maintenance - Anybody else do this?

Me too, til adding another spring to the back of the recliner.

Lawn mower (tractor) maintenance - Anybody else do this?

To heck with the deck underside, sounds like we need advice getting up.

Perhaps in a repetitive mass production setting to keep your hands free. A momentary switch wired in series with the original.

Have I shortened my lawn tractor life?

Didn't factor the blade tip speed. Multiple pulleys was another confounder so I measured the rpm of a blade spindle pulley. There are three blades, each 16" diameter. Spindle running at 3800rpm X 16"/12 X 3.1416 = 15,917fpm. ANSI B71.1 limit is 18,000fpm for push mowers. I'm OK. PS I stopped...

Have I shortened my lawn tractor life?

Correct. Even when sharp the mower blades often didn't cut it. Going over the same grass twice got old. 3540 rpm is OK, great, now only worry is keeping the mice nests out.

Tools you didn't know you needed until you had them

In the same vein as the OP is my hot stapler. Staples broken plastic parts back together. Works great, cheap, all types of plastic.

Have I shortened my lawn tractor life?

Re: 30 yo, 18hp, B&S opposed twin. Just got a tachometer. Raised rpm from little over 3000 rpm to little over 3500rpm. Very pleased with the results but have I shortened the engine's life?

    Will this work

A smarter solution is to run long hot water branch lines from closer to the water heater. Code dictates water main size but the branches can be small. One for the shower and one for the washing machine. 3/8" tubing holds 1/4 the water a 3/4" tubing holds so hot water comes 4 times faster. Less...

    Solar battery/maintainers

I'd move the batteries to where there's power or buy a long extension cord. Then any $10 wall wart maintainer will do. 50¢ electricity per year

    Shop heat

I found the radiant heaters don't need constant adjustments like the convection ones. The fuel level, under the wick, stays constant as the fuel is consumed. For no smell ignite outside and occasionally service the wick. Bet your glad you had it. :)

    Shop heat

My heat comes from gas furnaces and solar but when all else fails, no matter what, the kerosene heater works. Think Texas back in 2021. That said, I haven't used it in three years. You have to be careful with any space heater.

    Shop heat

Fleet Farm sells kerosene from a auto service (gasoline) pump for $5 a gallon, 35% cheaper than electricity. It's fail safe, if electricity go's out you still have heat. 🥶

    Shop heat

If you have natural gas available, like the OP, converting to propane would likely double your fuel cost. To the m16ty. If you just want radiant heat for a couple hours without heating the whole place, check out a cheap radiant kerosene heater. Kerosene is expensive but there's no smell after...
