    Haybine - Heavy Heavy Hay

Hi Don-Wi, I have a New Idea 290 on Saturday was cutting very heavy grass and alfalfa, then the reel chain came off I put a bigger spring for the tensioner but the chain still pops off after a few feet. This unit has been very good to me for 10 years, new knives last year. I'm thinking the...

    535 Ford haybine

Are you looking for the over-running clutch assembly that's what it sound like to me. Most common problem is that it has a grease zerk that most folks missed and caused the bearing to go bad and also the pins in the clutch to freeze. I have a New Idea 290 and I just rebuilt mine last year got...

Ca n you tell which filter is a steins and which is a kaw?

I guess I will be looking at the Steins next time I buy, just changed my Cub @ 10 hrs as the manual says. Will probably not run to 50 hrs for ongoing changes. I'll see how many hours I put on in a full year with the Cub. Thanks for sharing. Mike

Ca n you tell which filter is a steins and which is a kaw?

Geo, I would guess the one on the right is a Kaw, my Cub Cadet has a spin on but looking at the Stiens vs Kaw I bought the Kaw. Mike

    another what is it?

Larry, e-mail is not open. Thanks Mike. Don-WI, the jack shaft is the one I did on my 290 a little hard by myself but I got it done with new springs and new drive belt (they don't give them away) as well. Would be easier with 2 people. I also replaced the dogs and springs on the top roller.

    Battery drills.

As Dick2 said I got rid of my Dewalts and Porter Cables and went to Ryobi 18V very inexpensive, batteries are cheap and the run all Ryobi equipment. Watch Home Depot for deals. Mike

    cutditioner

Mine is mostly Bromme and and a native wheat grass which is fairly thick, but if too heavy I shift down to 2nd.It runs 2 to 3 feet tall. Most of my alfalfa is dry land so its light to medium depending on the rain we get so 3rd works very well. Yes it's a 9 foot.

    cutditioner

I run a NI 290 cutditioner behind my Farmall H 2nd to 3rd gear. I also have a 770 WF but I prefer the Farmall with a NF, less fuel and turns sharper. I would agree with Randy on the 770.
