    Rear Wheel Mount

Victory! I used Dean's method - only rather than the exciting bottle jack technique, I used a floor jack and stacked blocks until the height of the lugs was optimal. I used big blocks on the bottom and a piece of 3/8" plywood to get the height correct. This takes a bit longer, but whatever...

    Rear Wheel Mount

I cannot disagree with that! You Tractor Gurus are national treasures and the salt of the earth. I struggled for 3 hours this morning and gave up after the heat and other business tore me away from my little project. I have meditated upon the problem while driving to Ukiah. I have come up...

    Rear Wheel Mount

Thank you tractor buddies! I do have the tire standing up and move it slowly with all the respect due to an object that will break my legs if I am not thoughtful in my moves. I was doing the floor jack thing last night. I'll continue that task; but rig something up to keep it from falling...

8N Rear hub lock nut wire

I have a 40" bar that I attach to the socket that just fits the nut. My worry is to strip the threads. I did strip the threads a month or so ago when I saw oil leaking out the axle. I just replaced that axle and tightened it up with the thought, "Don't strip the threads!"

    Rear Wheel Mount

I just finished putting the new axle in, the shims, seals and all of that stuff. The last task is to put the wheel back on. It has a wheel weight and is also filled with water... so it's very heavy. I spent an hour struggling with it with no success. It's just me and the tractor. I have no...

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

Thanks MJ! You have no idea how depressed I've been about that tractor! I know it's something so easy to get going. I think my problem may be exactly "how much" gasoline/starter fluid/diesel to squirt into the intake to get her going. I started it before with gasoline... but for some reason...

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

Well, that's helpful. I can't figure out if it's just "not easy" or I'm doing something wrong. It's been years since the filters have been changed... and looked like at least 10 years since the primary filter was changed, so it seemed like a good idea.

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

Ha! That's interesting. Never considered what would happen if one put gasoline in a diesel... but I didn't do that. My hand pump seems to be working okay because I can "feel" a bit of resistance in that last 1/2" of "pump" when one of the ports are cracked for the air to go out.

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

I have replaced both fuel filters (primary and secondary) and gone through the process of bleeding the line from primary - lower and upper vent plugs of the injector - then the secondary filter by pumping the fuel pump handle. I waited for fuel to squirt out the loosened bolts - walked around...

    Anyone own a BCS tractor?

Wow! That's no fun. Had mine for years and nothing like that ever happened. I'd seriously think about replacing it... though they are expensive.

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

How's that work rrlund? (Mine is a Perkin.) You just loosen the upper and lower vent plugs and just turn it over?

Bleeding the lines or Gasoline on the filter

My MF30 ran out of diesel so I needed to bleed the lines to get it going. I saw a mechanic splash gasoline on the air filter, put the filter back in and start the tractor right up. I'm wondering: Does this method of starting a tractor do some damage to it? That method certainly beats the...

    Anyone own a BCS tractor?

I have a 710 that I bought years ago. Recently replaced the Brigs & Stratton engine with a Kohler engine that has an extra HP. Also replaced the tines. It's a great garden tractor! Very solid and I can get parts for it.

Throttling going uphill - then it dies.

Thanks Showcrop! I'll mix some up and fix my spare assembly. Royse - I read about the "two turns" system but never used it. After all the trouble of replacing the fuel bowl assembly it makes more sense to use the "two turn". I had been peeking into the tank now and again; running out of...

Throttling going uphill - then it dies.

Problem solved: I replaced the fuel bowl assembly. The well inside the screen filled up with sediment. Blowing it all out with an air hose from the opposite side inlet hole cleaned it all out quickly. The old screen was sitting inside the well, but the new assembly has some kind of glue on...
