Rear main engine oil seal replacement 8N

I do. A thin coating of permatex black when I install the rope seal holder into the block. Soak the rope seals for about an hour in warn oil. I leave the seals a little proud and add a touch of black permatex to the ends of the rope seals as well. Or, buy the much improved single piece modern...

    Carbureator for 8N Ford

I went through a spell collecting and rebuilding old original carbs for practice. I could usually find old nasty but usable original carbs on ebay for cheap. At one point I had to stop myself when I had 6 shiney clean carbs fully rebuilt sitting on the shelf for future use, which will probably...

    Grease, talk

On bearings I use the good red stuff as you don't/can't get to those regularly. Every thing else gets black molly - well, except the steering box which gets cornhead grease. Good grease is better, frequent greasing with any decent grease is best.

    doing a survey,

Your question states "self respecting shop" - I assume this means a professional shop(?) If so, many top end shops still use safety wire on certain applications. Pal nuts, probably not so much. The invention of Locktite has replaced some of this due to convenience and speed (time is money to a...

    8N sat for the summer

My old shop teacher told us to use a dollar bill to clean the points in a pinch. It works surprisingly well. Pinch the points closed as you run the bill through it several times.

    Ford 8n crack in engine

A word of caution regarding the common practice of "V"ing out a crack and using epoxy. First, I am not opposed to this practice as the N Series tractor is a low pressure cooling system - heck I have done it myself successfully once. However, the best way to fix a crack in a sensitive area like...

Sad news - the Tractor world has lost Bruce(VA)

Bruce helped me quite a bit over the years. I will sure miss him and the N Tractor world has lost a great resource.

    New tube for 8n

When I had a rusted out valve stem hole, I would just weld a washer on the inside of the rim and grind the welds down smooth.

    8N oil pump replacement

I would try to fix this one. Wear on the cover is normal and can be sanded down as stated above. Get a quality rebuild kit and give it a go. There has been threads showing these new rebuild kit gears are not as uniform in size as they are supposed to be, and I believe there are also questions on...

    Anyone bought YT bearings?

To start, I buy most of my parts here. Bearings are one of those things you want to last the rest of your life and never want to go back in to replace a second time. That said, I use Timken or Federal bearings on the important internal bearings. Smaller misc bearrings I have purchased here and...

Tank pinhole leaked gas all over...now won't start

Great news! Seems like the easy fixes are the ones hardest to find.

Tank pinhole leaked gas all over...now won't start

Curt - please don't take this wrong - but stop! You keep going back to the gas issue and guessing then replacing parts without testing anything on a "hunch" it might be right. No one told you to replace the coil. You came to us for help but continue to go out on your own guessing and replacing...

    camshaft bearing surface 8n
