    300u haydraulic lever

The hitch lift hydraulic lever on my 300 U is stripped. I can't seem to find any online, with the exception of Worthington, who want $260 for one. That's about 1/4 of what i paid for the tractor. Any good sources for that sort of thing?

    funny story from WELDERS HANBOOK

Years ago, when I was a janitor, i heard the story of the guy in Philadelphia who wanted to strip a floor and didn't have the right chemicals. So he dumped 5gal of toluene on the floor, mopped it around and gave it some good time to soak. When he started up the buffer, the fuel-air explosion...

    300u starter relau

The 300U is running, but i do have a couple of problems with it. The float valve is either sticking open or sticking closed. I'll need to rebuild it. Which rebuild kit works out the best? I have blisters on my fingers from touching the output on the starter relay after cranking for 10...

    Starting my 300U

I ran a fine grit piece of sandpaper lightly over the tip and that seems to have mostly cured the stickage. Now I just need to find out where my oil pressure has gone and it's fixed. Thanks everybody especially Wayne.

    Starting my 300U

I've got fire! After fixing the starter I was able to get fire by pouring ether into the carb and closing the choke. So I've got a fuel problem. I pulled the carb and everything looked okay at first, but I hooked it back up just to see if I was getting 9/16" of gas in the bowl. Well...

    Always trust the pros

That was instructive. Worthington had them at $.75 ea, plus $8.50 shipping. I didn't like the shipping price, so I looked further. Wow, some kinda scam artists out there. Someone had the same part up on ebay for $19.95 each. Amazon had them for $.03 off! for only 19.95 each! No wonder...

    Always trust the pros

So I went out today to buy some replacement brushes. Not a single auto parts store within 50 miles carries starter brushes. Or any brushes at all for that matter. They all looked at me like I was crazy. "Why not just buy a new one? It'll come with a warranty." "Okay, get me a starter for a...

    Always trust the pros

Amidst all the troubles getting my 300U started (see my previous posts), the starter quit working. I've been doing a lot of unpaid overtime and I messed up my wrench turning hand, so I figured it was a good bet to just take it to a pro and have them deal with it. there's a battery shop on the...

    Starting my 300U

I'd like to thank everybody that provided suggestions, Wayne especially. Following his instructions led to the discovery that I had offset the plug wires by 1 so that wire #1 was at wire #4's post on the distributor, etc. That's fixed and now I can reliably backfire. Seems the choke pivot pin...

    Starting my 300U

I'm having a heck of a time getting my 300u to fire up. I replaced the head gasket after finding water in the oil, and did serious clean-up, but not a rebuild, on the carb. I've checked all the plugs with a spark tester, as well as outside the cylinder. The coil is brand new, from NAPA. I...

torque on pressure plate bolts - 300U

So, was waiting for the new throwout bearing for my tractor before I started the clutch disk replacement. I pulled the starter to clean it up and repaint it. Looking inside I could see that the pressure plate was new. Like brand new. Now even I am not cheap enough to replace the pressure plate...

    IH 300 Utility

Jim's advise is good. Also look for an intake manifold leak. Easiest way is to blow some propane around the manifold. The engine will rev up when you're near a leak. This can cause the engine to run too lean, and can get worse when the manifold expands with heat.

Just anouther what would you pay

I paid $1100 for mine. It was a runner, TA not working, but works in direct drive. Manual steering with no problems. I've since replaced the clutch disk and bearings, head gasket, fuel tank, sediment bowl and 2 bent push rods for a total of about $500. Tires are carp, but they'll probably last...

    300U steering wheel

Damn, these all seem a bit harsh. by the looks of the responses, I'm not saving the wheel then. The top of the threads are already shot, so there's no way to save them. I guess I'll skip the tooth loss and cut it off. Thanks everybody.
