Fan belt replacement on 202 Massey Ferguson

After you have the three bolts out of the separating flange use a pry bar to force it away from the crank. It will only move enough to squeeze (with force) a 1/2" belt through. They are made to not have to remove the entire pump. Ihave a MF40, just rebuilt the engine and other stuff. I owned a...

Please identify this hyd. cyl. gland.

I bought this 3 1/2" hydraulic cylinder off a broken Case backhoe. It is an exact (almost) match for the dipper cylinder on an old MF backhoe w/ side shift. Looking for a seal kit. Any help would be appreciated. A few pictures along with the post describe sizes. Some of the seals may have been...

Cleaning the inside of a John Deere 620 fuel tank

Thank you, Daniel! In the meantime while I was waiting for a reply I read that Dawn dish detergent might work. So, I put in a couple gallons of water then about a quarter bottle of Dawn, let it soak for a few hours, swished it around occasionally. I put together a brush using 2-36" lengths of...

Cleaning the inside of a John Deere 620 fuel tank

Looking for product recommendations for cleaning the gunk and crud from my diesel tank. There is no liner. I tried swishing some gas around in it but didn't do much. Many years of built-up goo. Thanks in advance.

MF 40 New pistons hitting valves!

An update. After correcting the gear position on the camshaft and reassembling the timing gears and cover I find that the piston/valve positioning to be correct, according to my manual. Waiting for a new head gasket to arrive so I can put it together. Thinking, though, wouldn't hurt and wouldn't...

    MF40 w/ Perkins AD3.152

Thank you! I found the problem. I had neglected to align the 'D' marks on the cam gear and shaft. I didn't know and found the answer in the manual which I did not read beforehand.

MF 40 New pistons hitting valves!

Okay, I'm big enough to admit a mistake and I made one. Turns out that I had the cam gear in the wrong position on the camshaft. What a dope. 2 sets of pistons and rings and 2 sets of liners all because I screwed up. There is a mark on the camshaft end, a "D" and there is a corresponding "D" on...

MF 40 New pistons hitting valves!

Ya know .... I thought about the timing and how it would affect piston position vs valve position. I removed the timing cover and checked and I'm right on the money, which was disappointing because I'd rather adjust timing than to have to have the pistons machined AGAIN! But that's where I'm...

MF 40 New pistons hitting valves!

That's exactly what I got! I am now at 0.016" machined off and they still hit. Going to go another 0.020" and see what happens. Thank you!

    1976 MF40 Industrial w/ Perkins AD3.152 Diesel

The liners are not at all loose. I broke 2 of them trying to get them in all the way. I made a press to get them in without pounding on them and replaced them all. A second good look did not show cracks. It's all in. Thank you!

    MF40 w/ Perkins AD3.152

The manual specifies clearances above and below the block surface and I am within them. I'm actually right at 'top of block' on all 3. Regardless, the exhaust valves hit. I went out today and took off the timing cover to make absolutely sure the timing is correct, and it is spot on. My next move...

    Massey 135 stalled while brushhogging

Check your filters and make sure gas is getting to the carb. You can remove the inlet line and give the engine a few cranks. You should get a pretty good flow to the carb. If it's just a trickle you may have a clogged filter. Also check that fuel is dispensing from the tank. Make sure your tank...

    MF40 w/ Perkins AD3.152

Thank you! Guess I needed a little backup to make that decision. I assumed when I purchased the engine rebuild kit that everything would fit. Boy ! Was I wrong. Then I read that overly tall pistons are common. I didn't know that and put it all together. That's when the first striking occurred...
