I think that Fritz Maurer and Countryman have it right. I suspected that the thickness might have been the issue, and based on countryman's experience, the casting is too thin. They want to keep it light, but conflicting requirements lead to compromises. If it is too heavy no one will buy one... -
Thoughts on this disk?
Are these bearings any use? Off an old disc harrow that was left in the woods behind the house when I bought it 20 years ago. I think the shafts were 1" square bar. There are some remnants of wood bearings in them. PM if you are interested. They are worth whatever the post office wants to mail...- Dave G9N

Heat resistant metal advice please
The pictures look very strange to me. There appears to be a thick ceramic coating of some and some spots of exposed rusty steel where the coating has failed. Hard to say without seeing it myself. Good pictures for failure analysis are difficult to take. A very limited google search indicates... -

9N low/no oil pressure after sitting a month
If you take the bolt out of the cap on the oil filter housing can you use a brake bleeder hand vacuum pump to pull oil into the system? A rubber stopper with a tube through it should seal well enough in the bolt hole in the cap. Getting started might take some hand pressure on the filter housing...- Dave G9N
