that oil pump drive doesn't seem to be centered in the opening - it moves easily with a long screwdriver and I tried to center it with some grease to hold it in place - as near as I can tell it's the Oil Pump Shaft that's preventing it from dropping. I have not moved the engine to TDC #1 - I marked the location of the rotor on the old distributor and marked the block where the old distributor was set for timing. I am able to drop the old distributor back in at that location - so it was my plan to just drop the new one in where that was...- DaveinTN

I bought a new distributor - looks exactly like the old one. I'm trying to install it this morning and I cannot get it to drop down the last 1/2" or so.... I have not turned the engine since I removed the old one about a week ago... I marked the location of the Rotor and the Case on the Block...- DaveinTN

I've tried to install the new distributor but it won't drop in the last 1/2". I've been able to get the old one to drop in - it seems these distributors have a HEX pattern on the bottom of the shaft - is it possible that the new shaft Hex fitting is too tight to fit down all the way? Ford 861 Distributor Question
I bought a new distributor for my Ford 861. It came with an O-Ring installed (See Photo) but isn't it supposed to have an "Oil Seal" too? Is that what the groove is for under the O-Ring? Do I have to remove the Gear to get the Oil Seal on - (assuming it requires one?) thank you, Dave...- DaveinTN

thanks for the reply - did you glue the gasket to the cover by chance? I've removed the cover and it was a tight fit for the cover behind the distributor so I'm a little perplexed how to get the gasket where I need it to be without it moving when I try to slide the cover back in behind the... -
