JD 180 Lawn Tractor Cuts Out

Good call! I didn't detect any change in DC amps before the tractor shut off, but you got me thinking more about the carburetor solenoid. After the engine quit, I cycled the key on/off several times and noticed the solenoid wasn't clicking. After a couple minutes passed, the solenoid started...

JD 180 Lawn Tractor Cuts Out

Thanks for your reply! I do have a meter capable of measuring DC amps (although I've never tried that feature before). I'll try to get a reading from the connector to the PTO clutch.

JD 180 Lawn Tractor Cuts Out

I still have spark after the engine quits. Just to be sure I did this right, here's how I tested: 1) Started the tractor, engaged pto, and let it run until the engine cut out. (ran for 2 minutes before dying) 2) Pulled the plug boot, inserted a bolt, held the bolt head near the engine, and...

JD 180 Lawn Tractor Cuts Out

Oh, one more thing I should mention. I tried running with the gas cap loose in case the fuel tank vent was clogged. Still no luck...

JD 180 Lawn Tractor Cuts Out

Hi: I've adopted a 180 Lawn Tractor which had been sitting a couple of years. I started using it in late 2023, and it worked fine until July of this year. Now it's got a problem that has stumped me and I'm reaching out for any advice. Here are the symptoms: Tractor starts and runs fine unless...

Case DC clutch problem - resolved!

Had to look at the tires before answering. The guy I bought it from put on new back tires just before he sold it so I never paid much attention to them. They are 13.6's if I read the numbers correctly. It's been a good tractor for me. I use it for pushing snow and pulling an occasional...

Case DC clutch problem - resolved!

On 12/5 I posted about a stuck clutch problem with my Case DC. I’m happy to report the problem is resolved! I tried a number of the suggestions that were posted in response. What finally did the trick was jacking up the back of the tractor, starting in 4th gear, then depressing the clutch...

    Case DC clutch problem

Update: Many thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions on my clutch problem. I finally got some time to work with it today. I put the tractor in a heated garage for a couple of hours and had a look in the side access panels. I don't really know what it's supposed to look like in there...

    Case DC clutch problem

Wish I'd thought of that back when the problem started. If I ever break it free again I'll give this a try. Thanks!

    Case DC clutch problem

I've got a problem with my 1953 Case DC. When I depress the clutch, it doesn"t release. If I put the tractor in gear, depress the clutch, and try to start it the tractor rolls forward under starter power. This problem started about 6 months ago, and back then if I let the tractor run a while...
