Dying DB 780 Alive and well! (fuel problems)
First a big THANKS to Dieseltech and mEl for the suggestions, a real big help. It's guys like these that make these forums work! I have a DB780 that would run for an hour or 5 minutes before sputtering and dying. Acted like air in the lines. I did everything, changed filters, replaced lift pump...- DBT780

THE FIX! After trying everything listed in this thread, the last suggestion, a cracked pick up line in the tank, lead to the real problem. Although I had removed and cleaned the tank I never thought about the fuel pick up line. It turned out the line was clogged limiting the amount of fuel...- DBT780

Bad running tractor
I hope your right. I have put numerous filters on her and a lot of time trying to figure it out. Someone else had said it could be the injector pump and with your input I bet you are both right. I've never pulled or tried to get the timing set when putting it back on. Guess thats something else... -

I was afraid of that. After everything I've already done I guess the next step is to pull the injector pump and have it rebuilt. Was hoping it would be something cheap, oh well the joys of tractor ownership! :) Thanks -

Other than making sure fuel flows thru them, no. What do you think the best way to do that is? Have you ever heard of an injector pump doing this? -

Bad running tractor
I have a deisel tractor thats been acting up. Thought I had bad fuel so I changed the filters, pulled and cleaned tank, but still having trouble. She will fire right up and run fine. May run for 10 minutes or 3 hours before she starts to stumble and die. The engine will race then die down... -

OK, tried running with the fuel cap loose, nope didn"t work. Hoped it would be something that simple, but I guess not. Ran her for about an hour and a half today before she started stumbling. She let me get back to the barn this time. Makes no sense, haven"t tried steaming the tank yet, guess...- DBT780

Fuel Problems on Diesel
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try the fuel cap and see what happens. I thought it may be bad fuel also. I have pulled the tank but didn"t steam clean it. I have replaced the filters about 4 times now. When it dies and sits a day or two it will restart and run, but you never know how long...- DBT780

Diesel tractor runs great for 10 minutes to 3 days then suddenly engine will race, stumble and die. Have checked for air leaks in the lines, can't find any. DB 780 fuel problem
My DB780 simply dies. She might run all day without a problem or she may run 10 minutes. Prior to dying the engine surges, then stumbles and just dies.
