    I check my proof meter shows at 1500 tractor rpm is 536 rpm attachment. So probably around 1600. Also i will try and lower gear 2nd more than third. Thanks for the info.

    The over heating is gradual. Starts fine then about an hour or 2 it overheats. Yesterday dis have a boil over when I shut it down. The bush hog is a 60 inch cut and I run the teactir around 1500/1600 rpm. The tractor is a 4 speed and I am usually in 2nd or 3rd.

    I have a 1965 ford 4000 four cylinder gas. Last few time using it to bushhog after a couple hours use it overheats. The outside temp when I use it is 80 to 85 degrees with heat index in the 90s. The radiator fins are debrie free. I am thinking thermostat (not sure if one is installed or not) or...

    Another question, is that tang used to adjust the float height or the float drop? I have read in the forum that both height and drop needto be set.

    I have read the measurement for float level is supposed to be 1/4". What is the measurement for float drop?

    If the tang is not on the back of the flange would that let the float drop to much even if thw bowl.is removed.

    When i took.it apart to see what the problem was I cleaned all those out. But the float is dropping to low then the needle slides down to far and pins.between thw float flange and the needle seat then thw float will not rise like it should.

    I tried to bend up the forward edge of flange I did not see a tang on the back of the flange like you show on your photo. Could that be why the float is dropping to low allowing the needle to drop to low and wedge against the flange.
