How to start an International 8-16 tractor

Bob, thank you for that. I see you are in NY also. I'm in Cooperstown, Otsego County. Perhaps the main reason, above all else, I needed advice, was because of the advance/retard position lever behind the steering wheel. I was hoping could address this. Now you mentioned about pulling the lever...

How to start an International 8-16 tractor

Yes, mine is a 1920 and came from the Gary Sutherby sale conducted by Aumann Auction 2 weeks ag. Today I purged the tank and lines. The gas in it was not old. But the fuel lines were. Cleaned all the spark plug gaps, and wire contacts. I checked and there is a nice blue spark. Now for the 2...

    Case 400 orchard tractor

I have a Case 400 orchard tractor. It was restored years ago and still looks really nice. However, it is missing the side shields. I may be able to recreate them from pictures and have a good sheet metal person make them. I just figured they would be tough to find otherwise. Any advice? I live...

Removing rear wheel Hart Parr 18-36

I'm going to remove the rear steel wheel from my Hart Parr 18-36. I took the hub cap off and there are 2 bolts under it. In addition, I see there are also 4 large nuts that appear to obviously hold the wheel on. Can I only remove those 4 nuts to remove the wheel or do I have to do something with...

    Wanted Wanted

I need a usable 11.2 X 34 inch tire for my John Deere 40 that is a working tractor at my farm. I want someone who lives here in NY or someone who will be attending our state Pageant of Steam show in August. Just not practical if you live a distance away for just a tire. Thank you...

Hart Parr 19-36 hard to put in gear

I got it outside and now I could see better that the throw out bearing was dry. I put grease into those 2 zerks, along with a little grease on that shaft and now she engages and disengages just fine. Thanks!

Hart Parr 19-36 hard to put in gear

Well rrlund, you were on the right track. When I got it outside into brighter light, I see the throwout bearing was dry looking, along with some surface rust on the shaft that the bearing travels on. I cleaned it up, put grease into the bearing zerks, and problem solved. Thanks!

Hart Parr 19-36 hard to put in gear

Thanks for your reply Scootergmc. When I finally pulled it out of the barn into bright sunlight yesterday I noticed the throwout bearing had 2 grease zerks. They were bone dry when I pumped grease in. I worked the clutch back and forth. Gave it a whirl and problem solved. It runs great, but a...

Hart Parr 19-36 hard to put in gear

I just purchased a Hart Parr 18-36. Did some carb work and got it running nicely. But it grinds when I try to put it in any gear, even if I idle low. Keep in mind the clutch appears to engage and disengage when I pull the clutch lever or push it forward. Any suggestions?

Timing a Cub with dial indicater

I'm helping a friend time his Farmall Cub correctly. I always used a dial indicater to find exact TDC. Should the Cub spark exactly at top dead center? Or should the spark occur a little before? How many degrees before? Last tractor I did was an Allis B and I set it to spark at about 3 degrees...

    JD 40 rear fluid

I use my JD 40 with a 5 foot brush hog to do pasture. Lately I've noticed a puddle of oil under the rear of the tractor. It is slowly leaking from the unit under the seat somewhere. When I went to brush hog yesterday, the PTO did not want to turn. Also, what type of fluid goes into the filler...
