    JD 7520 transmission rebuild cost

I've tried a few things to fix the overheating transmission problem in my 1975 7520 with no results. I'm planning to talk to my local jd dealer about finding the problem and fixing it. I just don't have the time or knowledge of these to fix it. My question is what could I expect to spend on...

    JD 7520 Transmission Overheating Update

I forgot to mention I also drained the fluid and pulled the screen which didn't show metal filings. I then used a magnet to fish inside and found some metal filings but nothing large. I also can't find the rest of the bolt! Should I put a big magnet on the bottom to the transmission? Thanks

    JD 7520 Transmission Overheating Update

I took the transmission cover off today to take a look inside. The gears looked good for the most part. I found a couple chipped edges and the reverse was worn where the coupler goes but for the age I thought it looked normal. I did find a broken bolt, part number 19H1944 in the lookup. It...

    JD 7520 hydraulic cooler flow

Don't think I am questioning your thought of a transmission rebuild Tim. I'm sure you are right and it will need it soon. Honestly I don't have much money in the tractor and I am just trying to play around with it and get it running cool for now. I just thought it was weird how the tube would...

    JD 7520 hydraulic cooler flow

I posted earlier about my 1975 7520 having problems with the transmission overheating. I pinpointed where the heat is starting. The first point that heats up is the block on top of the transmission case front cover. The line that runs from the oil cooler in the front of the tractor runs to...

    JD 7520 Trans Problems Update

It's hard for me to say that it is running fine in the other gears since I'm not really used to this tractor. I haven't owned it very long and finally have a chance to use it. It is very strong in low gears 6&8 seem to be the worst but 5&7 seem fine. I guess I'm still thinking cars to call it...

    JD 7520 Trans Problems Update

1975 4wd 7520. I changed the trans oil in the tractor and filter and the old oil smelled burnt and was almost water like. There wern't any metal filings or other junk in it. It still heats up in low range. I drove it less then 1 mile empty and it was hot. I am almost sure the heat is coming...

    7520 4wd transmission problem

Thanks for the ideas Tim S. I'm going to change the trans fluid and install a new filter and then try to pinpoint it on monday. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks

    7520 4wd transmission problem

That would also explain the heat if the transmission was working against itself. We were using a 4430 to pull another wagon same size and I made it a point to feel how hot the trans was on it and you could hold your hand on it all day just a little warm. I could have cooked an egg on the...

    7520 4wd transmission problem

After it stalled it started back up and I just had to stay in 7th gear. I couldn't get the tractor to pull itself in 8th. Sorry I forgot to describe that part. It just seems to me like the transmission feels tight in 8th gear like the brakes are being held. Any ideas?

    7520 4wd transmission problem

I have a 1975 7520 and was pulling loads of beans with it today. Nothing major just 450 bu at a time aboud 3 miles down the road. I was pulling in 7th gear low speed just fine rpms would stay just the same going up and down small hills. When hauling empty I started in 6th and shifted on the...

    Setting Tire Beads

I have only done one tire so far and have seven more to do. I wanted to make sure I'm doing it right before I keep going. I figured the soap would dry clean and not cause much rust but don't know for sure. I've heard of several people doing that. I thought I read on the tires or tubes not to...

    Setting Tire Beads

I'm putting new tires on my 1975 7520 and have a few questions about setting the beads. I took the 20.8 34 tires off and am putting 18.4 34 BKT tires on it with Firestone 16.9-18.4 tubes. These are 18 inch wheels. I cleaned the wheels with a wire wheel and treated the wheels with a rust...

    18.4x34 tires on 18 rims

Thanks for the picture and replies. I am looking at the Firestone 23 deg bias and would need tubes anyway. I just didn't want to have them so flat that the rim looks wider then the tread. I think the tires pictured look fine and that is a larger difference then I would have. Does anyone know...

    18.4x34 tires on 18 rims

I am looking at switching the tires on my 7520 from 20.8x34 to 18.4x34. I have looked into switching but have been told that I will need to change all the rims to 16 inch since it has 18 inch rims now. My question is can I run 18.4's on the 18 inch rims or will there be a problem with seating...
