What was the first John Deere you drove

Hard to say for sure. It"s been a long time. Suffice to say I grew up "red" and the first JD I can remember being around much is the 8450 that showed up in Grandpa"s machine shed sometime in the fall after the summer I spent at the farm and he demoed a then brand-new Magnum. I was disappointed...

    4630 rear wheel adjustment help?

Your first step should be to pull the forcing screws out, chase the holes out with a bolt with slots cut in it, wire-brush the forcing screws off and reinstall with anti-sieze and some engine oil or grease so you're actually pushing against the wedges instead of fighting the crusty old threads...

Brilliant engineering Lack of Self Preservation Must See

Saw this a week or two ago. That death trap runs like a banshee, I'll say that. I'm not sure what in the heck the engine is. Looks like a distributor hanging out there to the RH side of the front end along with that air intake deal.

    7000 SERIES SPLITTING STANDS

All I know is the Deere stands are a PITA. I've had two 7000s split in the last 7 months or so and had to split both twice (don't ask - one screw-up was mine and one was Deere's) and man I hate those stands.

    4440 Update

If a bolt head pops off and no one is around to hear it, does it still make noise? Lol.

    4440 Update

Chase the hole out, slap in a new bolt and torque to specs and put it back to work.

    Air supension seat retrofit

I installed one in a 4650 years ago. Pretty straightforward deal, and I was impressed with the results. It looks a little goofy when you're used to seeing the Hydracushion in there but that's irrelevant.

    BD Grand National

$1000 doesn't buy much these days. Probably more value in it than that as parts, but I'm not a Buick or Grand National expert. They are awesome looking cars, though. My roommate/classmate in tech school had a Buick Regal T-Type, and from what I understand those are even more rare than Grand...

Old 531/619 any relation to the new 12.5 ?

If a guy could keep the weep hole open and clean that would help a bunch and if the oil seal were more robust or maybe some kind of double-lip seal so coolant under pressure couldn't be easily forced past it. If a guy could come up with something better there might be some money to be made...

Old 531/619 any relation to the new 12.5 ?

I tend to agree. I've seen belt-driven water pumps fail and take out the fan, shroud and very expensive radiator. The main thing with gear-driven water pumps is to simply check the oil every day, which you should be done anyway, regardless of what type of water pump is on the engine. It doesn't...

    4640 upholstery wrinkles

Tim has the right idea - don't use any adhesive on the top 6 to 8 inches so you can work it up under the trim without wrinkling it. But as far as getting it perfect, does it look better now with wrinkled new upholstery than with the old? If so, and if it's your tractor and you don't have to...

John Deere Letter About Allis-Chalmers Closing

So would the jist of the letter be that Deere was relieved that A-C went under and publically said so? I can't imagine that was the case. A-C never posed much of a threat to Deere, and Deere doesn't generally have a history of engaging in "us vs. them" corporate politics. Model comparisons? Yes...

    OT - 1911 shooters...

Another pic showing the "open well" bore of a .45, lol.

    4020 side consolw power shift

I agree. It's probably had $10,000 or more spent on it recently, and $15,000 or less would be pretty much a steal.
