    Saw my first twister

Well, I was in the twister outbreak of June 8, 1953 near Flint, Mi... My cousin David (11 yo) and I (13 yo) were home alone on the farm... We saw the sick greenish yellow sky and the dark purple wall coming and clearly heard the train roaring (no train tracks within 10 miles)... We pulled the...

    What would you do?

That paint is no longer protecting the metal from rusting... You have an original, not chopped up, tractor that is worth protecting... To my way of thinking, to say you won"t paint it because it won"t be original is like saying you would not change the oil filter because it won"t be...

Our AC WD45 is feeling a little under the weather today

Engine is mostly above water.. If that is the high water mark you will be fine as long as you drain and filter/refill before running it... Not as bad here in Michigan, but the chickens have about 50 square feet of mud to stand on outside the coop, everything else is a pond... denny-o

    Identify plow

http://s1114.photobucket.com/albums/k523/k8do1/Tractor/?action=view&current=4-22-11-4.jpg Wonder if you can identify this plow... Thought it was Oliver 4240 when I bought it, now told it is JD, F600 series? I want to get a manual for it... Tires are junk, heavily cracked, but hold air (for a...

    Its Alive!!!

In the bad old days, we would dunk the disassembled carb parts in a gallon kit of carb cleaner - the bad stuff that had a floating layer on top to keep it out of your lungs... Today, I would make up a mix of 25% Muriatic Acid and 75% water (add the acid TO the water, slowly)and soak the parts...

    Tractor sitting in shed

Mid Michigan continues to see rain and ponding in the fields... This time last year the crops were 99% planted and sprouting... I am working on the tractor so the weather is not my hold up - so far. I do hope to plow the garden and get sweet corn and potatoes planted within a seek... Tomatoes...

Oliver 1600 wide front - rear dust seal for hub

Update: Got the replacement seals and rebuilt the left front hub... Then pulled right hub and discovered the bearings were trashed - left was OK... Bearings just came in today and I will finish the right hub tomorrow... I thank the folks on here and over at Harsin's for the advice I have...

    1655 GAS 7/16 MANIFOLD BOLT?

My 1600 (late 1963 production) has 7/16" studs for the two outside mounting "bolts"... They are threaded full length so there is no smooth section for the manifold ears to ride on... denny-o

    Positive Start A

My impression is that you need to do nothing but hook up a battery as it has been changed over to negative ground in the past they would have taken care of flashing the generator, etc... denny-o

    Flushing engine, hand start

With modern oils I see no reason to scar the bearings, etc. by running it with kerosene, etc. in it... Drain it warm, put in fresh oil, run it for a couple of minutes to get the fresh oil all through the engine and you are done... denny-o

    254 overheat problem solved

Hmm, I would put a machinists straight edge across that block before I put another $100 gasket on it...

    Done with John Deere

I hope to be done with JD someday.... The B is in a zillion pieces... The cam will go out for regrind tomorrow and that should be the last machining on the engine.. Then the reassembly begins... Gonna be a chore for me... The project was started by my son, but he died... Going to have to make...

    B model engine cam removal

Ya, ya, I know some of you will snicker... I just pulled the cam and followers to send out to Cam Craft to check the profile and regrind as necessary... It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get that little critter out... Durn, there's a lot of tubes in there... denny-o
