    Any advise!!

Jmor, I live on the east coast and use the Dennisinoklahoma as a confuser. Protocol where I worked before retiring required all times be referenced to U.S. EST where the main office was located. We traveled all over the world so it worked for us. Bad habits are hard to break. It could...

Ron, If you are just bragging, I am jealous. If you are selling or trading I may be interested. [email protected]

    Magneto on 2N

I am pretty sure the 42 2N all had a serial number starting with 9N and no serial numbers started with 2N.

    winter maintenance

Something else to add to the winter list. The operator's manual on my Jubilee recommends you clamp down the clutch to disengage it to keep it from sticking. I think I will do that this year because I had a new Belarus clutch and a 8N clutch stick over the past 2 winters.

    what to do ?

If the tractor has no special meaning or sentimental value to you, I suggest dumping it or parting it out. Parting it out can be fulfiling experience, especially if she ever got on your nerves. Besides, the less number of old tractors out there, the more mine are worth. You will never get...

    9n oil pressure

The oil pressure should be a steady 38 to 40 on a great engine with good bearings. You could always hope the oil gage is bad but most likely you are losing oil through worn out bearings. In the old days, on cars and trucks, on the cheap, we put in a larger capacity oil pump and / or dropped...

    charging question?

My Jubilee and 8N tech manuals state the 6 volt generator should start to put out current at 1250 rpm and have a full 20 amp rate at 1650 rpm. The amount of current flowing through the ammeter will depend on how well charged the battery is. As the battery reaches full charge, the difference in...

    Any advise!!

Cody, Here is what I do to isolate electrical problems. The plan is to determine if it is a battery problem, starter problem or an ignition problem. You need a cheap voltmeter, even a $8 model will work. You need some heavy duty jumper wire. You need some jumper cables. 1. Check that you...

    8N sherman with O/D

Check out the prices on Ebay, go to advanced search area and select the "completed listings" when doing a search for Sherman Transmission. There were several add on transmissions, Sherman, Hupp, Everett, and Howard to name a few. For an excellent overview of add on trannys for the old Fords...

    Cable Operated Sherman Problem

If you have a parts cleaner try it. If not, do what I do to sticky speedometer and proof meter cables. Oil and sand down the inner cable and while it is still oily and gritty, use it to sand down the inside of the outer sheath by running the inner cable through the outer sheath numerous...

    Magneto on 2N

Is there any way to tell if a 2N came out with a magneto? Anyone know where to find a list of 2N serial numbers for tractors than came out with the magneto and steel wheels? I have a very low serial number on my 42 2N but it has a standard distributor and standard rubber tires. If it...

    An exercise in 8N identification.

Thanks for the advice. I agree, there is no way to be sure any single part is original on any tractor. I will look for the date codes, never thought of that. 5 points to certify! I assume that means 5 on the tractor and 5 on the engine. This may be more fun than I thought.

    OT- Handgun recommendations

Pocket gun? I have carried a half dozen different ones or more for two weeks each just to try them out. I prefer the Bond double barrel derringer. It has numerous interchangable barrels that can be changed out in less than 20 seconds. I prefer the .357 / .380 spl. barrels for visiting...

    An exercise in 8N identification.

I just picked up an 8N with a modified serial number. The original number has been ground off using a medium grit grindstone and very weakly restamped 8N 63788 It will not show up in a picture. No * or diamonds on the start or end of the number. The N is not typical of a factory stamp. Note...

    When giving advice.

To Chris in ND, You asked how a manual can save a marriage. Here is a scenario on how a marriage might have been saved with a manual. Don"t hold me to the exact truth of this story. It is mid August, tempratures are 100 plus, tempers are just as hot, the humidity is drowning the locust...
