    That tube is the CAMBOX OVERFLOW DRIP TUBE. It SHOULD BE LEFT OPEN, and NOT plumbed back to the fuel tank. Ford/Simms pumps had the same tube.

    I use a heat gun to check how hot the engine is. Engine should be 190-200 degrees for best results for hot retorque.

    Diesel sheet metal on the Super 90 diesels is NOT the same as gas, fenders are different between row crop and standard models too.

    Sounds like it's time for injection pump repair. DON'T run it much longer or you WILL shear off the weight retainer pins, SIEZE the hydraulic head and BREAK the drive shaft. Have seen that happen too many times in fifty years and counting of injection pump service.

    Back to FIRE POINT, REMOVE the pump gear, turn pump drive hub ONE TURN, and replace the gear on the hub again with the HUB MARK aligned with the pointer.

    Turn the engine until the U shaped notch on the pump FLANGE EDGE is at the six O clock position and insert a 5/16 drill bit into the location hole into the pump FRONT, this will locate the hub NOTCH for correct timing.     PLENTY of SLICK LUBE on the pilot tube bore and the first seal. When that seal is inside the tube RIGHT, the pump will slide VERY EASILY over it. If you have to push HARD then that's the sign the REAR seal is rolled over and damaged. I slide the pump back and forth to make sure it slides easily...
