88 diesel out of time by one tooth on the plunger gear

The HUB /pointer mark and the GEAR mark DO NOT line up. It's NORMAL to see the gear one tooth away when the HUB mark aligns with the pointer. The head is installed with the tappet on the BASE CIRCLE of the cam, the hub PORT CLOSING is with the tappet PART WAY up the cam lobe, AWAY from port closing.

JD 1640 Rough Idle and Fuel Leaks

The rough idle COULD also be the pump speed advance is not working right too. I've seen that a few times on pumps I've had apart for repair.

574 injection pump throttle shaft starting position

Do BOTH upper and lower valves ROTATE freely? The LOWER valve moves in and out while engine is running, the TOP only rotates with the throttle lever and MUST NOT be stuck or pin WILL break.

What'd the boys drag home this time?

All I can tell you it's a Panzer with a Briggs engine. No idea on the year, my brother has one.

What was your longest tractor ride?

Last year was to the Mackinac bridge crossing and back, 914 miles in nine days. Two years ago was 1100 miles from western Wisconsin to South Dakota and back, drove tractors on the Needles Highway and more where the Buffalo roam.

    900 Case injector pump

The FIRST photo shows the three bolt on transfer pump. It's a piston pump that CAN be repaired with new check valves if needed. DGK 301 is the repair kit number for the supply pump.

    Smokey '73 Allis-Chalmers 200

The early 200 used a 5 degree pump advance, 10 at the crank. the Late 200 used an 8 degree pump advance, 16 st the crank. The static timing is not the same for both pumps.

    Ford 3 cylinder diesel timing

Most Perkins and some JD engines use the SAME pump drive hub with a pin in the gear also. Pump CAN be out of time IF the pin is NOT in the hub notch. I had a service call on a four cylinder Perkins that would not start but had plenty of fuel to injectors. On inspection I found the gear pin...

    Ford 3 cylinder diesel timing

The gear fits close enough that it won't jump teeth with the pump off engine. Just MAKE SURE the gear pin aligns with the pump drive hub notch when installing it.

    Ford 3 cylinder diesel timing

If you do pull the front cover don't be surprised if NONE of the gear marks line up. SOME engines have an odd number tooth count so the marks ONLY align about 1500/2000 engine revolutions. I would try hard to get it going WITHOUT pulling the front cover.

    PSB Bosch inj pump

I use two cycle motor oil, one quart to 30 gallons works well for me.

    PSB Bosch inj pump

The head/plunger wear over time with poor filter maintenance. Most get broken from setting unused awhile with old stale fuel, water in fuel, and/or bio diesel in the tank. Best to run them often, and keep the tank FULL as when full it won't sweat and get condensation water in the tank.

Need Help - John Deere 3020 gas - won't move

I've always said the SAFEST way to tow a JD Synchro trans is in EIGHT GEAR, and clutch pedal TIED DOWN. This way you KNOW the trans driveline is turning the INPUT SHAFT which TURNS the trans LUBE PUMP to oil the shafts/gears. I've seen too many gears welded to the shaft as operator THOUGHT it...

IH 584 pto not stopping with clutch

You don't have to stop the forward travel to shift in the PTO with the fully independent PTO clutch, like you do with the two stage clutch tractors. Most two stage MF models do have the ground drive though if needed the IPTO models don't have.
