Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

Tractor was running fine the other day. Started it several times with no problem. Yesterday it was much colder outside (20's) and she didn't want to start. It tried to pop a couple times and that's it. Now it just cranks. Haven't been able to check much yet but seems like a no spark issue again.

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

The generator that was on it. It has the adjustment screw so I turn it up until I saw over 12 volts at 3/4 throttle.

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

Managed to get her running today. I did go with a 12 volt battery (borrowed from another tractor) and put a ballast resistor in before the key switch and also using the original resistor as well to keep from melting the coil. She fired right up and got lucky on the charging system. It charges...

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

I have a pretty good sized driveway. Normally I angle the blade and keep rolling it off to the side. I also have a push blade that was he made for an IH loader that I may fit to the 2n. On a good note, I worked on her a bit today and cleaned up all the electrical connections. The resistor block...

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

Bob, I'm just thinking of cost at this point and time. I need the tractor to start and run reliably for winter as I will be using it for snow removal duty. (It has a Freeman loader on it and I will add a blade to the 3 point as well) I have considered a 12 volt conversion, just thought it...

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

It has an after market "electronic cut out" in place of the original, is there a way to test that? I need to spend some time cleaning all the connections and putting the wiring back to original. The tractor has been sitting outside for the past couple years so there is rust and corrosion on most...

Newly acquired 2n has 8v batt neg ground. Why???

I recently bought a 1946 2n with a few issues. I noticed it has an 8 volt battery connected in a negative ground fashion. Ignition resistor is bypassed as well. I am curious as to why this may have been done. Also would it be ok to switch it back to positive ground at this point and...

I'd like to find one also. I have a couple of pics of it that I blew up to show more detail. I have yet to see one in person though.

I have also heard of a guy in PA. that makes them. I have his number somewhere. I believe a complete set of all 4 panels was around $375. Not sure if that would include shipping.

I've used the search feature. I can't seem to find any threads with mention of reproduction emblems.

My emblem is missing also. I would be interested in possibly getting a reproduction for it. So far we use the tractor regularly but eventually she will be mostly retired. She'll still make it to shows and the occasional trip around the field though. I would.like to get her back to the original...
