8N Backfiring
Couldn't believe I did that, but numbers 3 and 4 were wrong on the dist cap. I just changed them, It started again, still surging, and backfired only once in 5 minutes run time. I'll pull the dist tomorrow and check the timing. Thanks for the tip.- Dwightzero

I rebuilt the carb on mine (49 8N) After the rebuild the float would stick, sometimes had to tap the side of the carb to get it to accept gas or stop flooding. 8N Backfiring
My 49 8N with front mount distributer starts easily but surges and backfires through the exhaust. I have converted it to 12 volts, installed new points, distributer cap, rotor button, condenser, 12 volt square coil, plugs, and plug wires, and rebuilt the carb.
