    The gold demonstrators were mid year 1970 only and only on the following models, 544 and 656 hydro's only, 826 choice of transmissions, 1026 hydro, and 1456 gear drive.

    There's another option that you could do. Most of the new cars have electric power steering. Look at some of these systems and see if they can be adapted to your steering shaft. I've seen it done on old IH scouts. Toyota Corolla power steering units come to mind.

    There were 2 types of power steering on the Farmall 504 tractors. A torque generator under the steering wheel for the regular narrow and wide fronts.     That's a Farmall version with the standard clamshell fenders. The deluxe fenders were flattop and had 2 headlights per fender.

    International 656 Hydro Weak Transmission

    Also MAKE SURE when you try to move it, the hi low range lever is in neutral ( not just the forward/reverse lever). The hi/low lever is the one on the right side of the steering wheel (sitting in the seat).

    Do yourself a big favor and look on ebay for a 544/656 hydro troubleshooting manual. It will tell you how to adjust the linkage for the hydro lever and how to test the hydro. I bought a 656 hydro that wouldn't hardly move, did all the adjustments and it would pull a 4 bottom flip plow.

    I Have a 2544 hydro diesel utility and a 544 hydro diesel utility row-crop 3(8 inch rear tires). Both very handy tractors. Will be one of the last to leave the farm.

    brought the 656 hydro home

    You need to make sure the hi/low lever is in neutral (not the forward reverse lever neutral). Otherwise it's metal against meatal on the squash plates and slippers. It doesn't take much to wear a grove in the surface and ruin a transmission.

    Probably 1300. Those tractors are not scrapped much and there's a lot of them still in use. I know of at least 5 in my neighborhood.

    We carry Viscosity ultraction in eastern NC. 5 gallon bucket is $118 Viscosity owns the formula. CNH owns the hytran name.

    The utility 544 is like a 504. The 544 Farmall is like a 656.
