    Is this a 8N10505B or 8N10505C regulator?

Thank you guys! I ordered a new regulator on Ebay today that looked the closest and said it replaces both 8N10505B and 8N10505C, so we'll see when it gets here. It said free returns, but hopefully I won't need it!

    Is this a 8N10505B or 8N10505C regulator?

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. That's interesting. The nnalert website only offers two regulators for the Ns for sale: the 8N10505B and the 8N10505C, so it seems like it does (or did) exist, but I've also read that the new replacements really are all the same, and one just comes with an adapter...

    Is this a 8N10505B or 8N10505C regulator?

I have a 1942 Ford 9N that my dad replaced the original 9N generator many decades ago with a replacement 8N10000B three-terminal generator. Of course, that meant he had to install a correct 8N voltage regulator to go with it. That regulator is finally giving up the ghost and I need to replace...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Just an update on finding new insulators for the FIELD terminal on the 8N10000B generator. After looking everywhere on the internet with no luck, I found a wonderful company called Romaine Electric (https://romaineelectric.com/) that rebuilds old generators and starters and sells parts for them...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Any thoughts on my post above about if new insulators for the FIELD and ARM terminals are available? Thanks, Eddie

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Hi everyone, this is an update from way back in February to the post you can read about above. I finally found the problem with my 8N10000B generator on my 1942 9N and why it was charging full-scale all the time. The insulator on the FIELD terminal is cracked and when I tightened the nut on...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

That's a great test to run, Btzj02, and I will definitely do it before taking the generator apart - thanks!! Wish I could get out there now to work on it, but work calls instead. I think I need to retire... ;-)

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Yep, I try to do that too - and my Dad always told me the same thing :-) I guess I didn't do a good enough job on that this time... dang it. Will be a couple weeks before I can get out to the farm again and work on it, but I'll keep you guys updated when I do. I'm just a little worried about...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Great, thanks Jim! Yes, I will try what Btzj02 has above, but I think I will need to take the back cover off the generator and see what has happened. Anybody have any thoughts or tips or things I should be aware of when I do that? Thanks again for all the help. Eddie

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Hi everyone, Update is this - I had a little time yesterday, so I measured the DC resistance of all terminals on the generator and the regulator. All measured 0 ohms to ground (a short), except for the middle terminal on the regulator which measured 10 ohms. Despite that, I hooked up all the...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

I agree with all your thoughts, Jim - thanks. I hope to get started working on it again this weekend when the weather warms up. Will give you guys updates when I know more!

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Great, thanks everyone. I will start by re-tracing my steps and measuring continuity to see if there are any shorts. I can't believe I hooked up any of the wires wrong, because I took them off only one at a time, cleaned and re-installed. If I don't find any shorts, then I'll try the...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Thanks Jim, will do! Yep, they just looked like they were dirty and hadn't been cleaned in many years. Now I'm wishing I wouldn't have... I don't think I overtightened the connections at the generator, but I definitely tightened them tighter than they were before. Do you think I would have...

Ford 9N generator pegging positive after cleaning connections

Hi everyone, I have a 1942 Ford 9N that my grandfather bought new and was later restored by my dad and uncle. The tractor is still 6V positive ground, and when my dad restored it, he put a 3 terminal generator on it and an actual voltage regulator. I am now the third generation owner, and it...

Ford NAA, 841, or 861 - which one (or more) to buy?

Thank you so much for the detailed reply, David! I will let you guys know how it goes. It may be a few weeks, but I'll be back - hopefully with good news but probably with more questions too, ha. Thanks again!
