    NAPA sold repair post at one time that had a screw built in and a hex base for a wrench. It has been awhile but I"d check with auto parts stores.

    The 240 is more efficient and will actually use less electricity.

    I doubt if it will run on 110 voltage but one leg maybe leaking voltage. Diagnostics can be hard but first make sure the gage is working.(only about $5 and they don't last).     you need to replace the pump with a submersible with the proper pumping curve to over come head pressure which is a combination of lift and friction from the pipe and fittings.
