    Its not starving for air. I unplug the hose from the oil air filter and it still smoke black at start up and idle.

    Hello. I have a 1960 MF65 Perkins AD4.203 Diesel engine that I freshly rebuilt the head. The tractor smokes a lot of black smoke at start up and idle. What should I check or adjust? Do I need new injectors or any fuel injector pump adjustment? Your imputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    MF65 diesel won't start

    I got it going, purged the fuel a fourth time and it fired up. Finally it stopped smoking when warmed up. Lapping the valves and new gaskets and fluids helped a lot. Now its time to get rid of it. Thank you all for the correspondence and inputs.

    I did give it a shot of quick start, it puttered but didn't start. I can't get around my head the fuel reach the injectors return line and I bled the system 3 times already and still it won't start. I cleaned everything when I removed the injectors and the head for a new head gasket.

    I bleed both filters, constant fuel incoming out.

    The fuel pump is working, fuel is pissing from the injector pump bleed screws when I crank the engine.

    I just replaced the blown head gasket and bolt everything back on and adjust the valves, the timing gears were untouched.

    Yes I got fuel out of the bleeding screws on the pump and on top of the injectors return line.

    Hello. I have a 1960 MF65 diesel that I replaced a blown head gasket and misc gaskets including injectors dust rubber sels. I follow the pump bleeding procedure and it still won't start, I don't see any obstruction in the air inlet. is there another way that I could fire up the engine? Thanks.

    Massey 65 won't start

    Thanks Guy's! Followed the bleeding procedure and got the tractor going but very smokey, the tractor was smokey from the beginning but not like today. What cause blue/black heavy smoke? Injectors should be replaced? Definitely I will purchase the workshop manual. Thanks again or your help.

    Thanks for the info. It's a late engine with the injectors on an angle. I undid the air cleaner hose at the bowl and left it open, fired up the engine and indeed it sucks a lot of air and the engine idle a bit better. Also the deep stick seems loose and worn out so I add pressure to the stick...

    So the registration are wrong. the bath bowl is there but no element, could that be the case of oil blow by? Also what type of injection my tractor has since its a 1960?
