MS Carb ID on Ford 641

I thought I would post a picture of the tag on the side of the carburetor. Hopefully this helps to ID it.

MS Carb ID on Ford 641

I want to make sure I'm reading the carburetor tag correctly so I know the MS model number if/when I need to get a rebuild kit. My tractor is a 1958 Ford 641. The brass tag on the side of the MS carburetor has the numbers: "55" and then below: "593" I think this means it is TSX-593. That...

    1958 641 Carb Adjustment

Thanks, Old. I did clean the cup and replaced the oil in the oil bath air cleaner cup. I also removed and cleaned the steel wool filter element above the oil cup. Not sure how long since that had received servicing. The old oil had lots of dirt in it. I will adjust the main jet as you...

    1958 641 Carb Adjustment

I have a 1958 Ford 641. It starts and runs good and has plenty of power, however, it does run rich as the spark plugs are carbon fouled. It has a MS carb TSX593. That MS carb number does not look like one that was originally installed on a 641 (based on info I see on the internet) so maybe it...

ford 601 new temperature guage sender doesn't fit!

Showcrop, Does the shoulder on the bulb need to be at a right angle (flat shoulder) rather than the 45 deg. taper as shown in the picture in order for the bulb to seal correctly?

Coil for use in 12 volt conversion on Ford 641

Thanks, all, I picked up a NAPA IC14SB for ~$22 and confirmed its internal resistance at 3.5 ohms. I won't be using the IDR0001 since it is better suited for 6 volt or 12 volt with external resistor.

Coil for use in 12 volt conversion on Ford 641

Thanks, gents, I'm getting consistent ohm readings of 1.5 ohms now. I can't explain what is different now but it sure looks like a 6 volt coil

Coil for use in 12 volt conversion on Ford 641

Thanks, JMOR, I'm getting the overrange ohm measurement displayed on the digital voltmeter indicating infinite resistance across the + and - terminals of the coil. Does this mean the coil is bad?

Coil for use in 12 volt conversion on Ford 641

I purchased a 12 volt conversion kit and received a IDR0001 12 volt coil in the kit. In looking on the internet, I see information saying this coil "has no internal resistor". I've spoken with the seller and he indicates it has the correct internal resistance for a 12 volt conversion. The only...

    641 Hard Starting

Thanks, Old, I'll check things out. The coil after running the tractor for a couple hours measured 122 deg F. using the IR temperature gun and it felt pretty warm but not super hot. Does this indicate the coil should be OK?

    641 Hard Starting

I have a '58 641 with a 6 volt positive ground system. Over the last several weeks it has become more difficult to start. It starts best when cold and has been taking multiple cranking attempts to get started after the tractor has been working and warmed up. I've checked electrical connections...

Ford 641 B-Circuit Generator Charging Problem

I went out to check the wire connections at the voltage regulator to see how much room I had to work and how I would tape and mark the wires before replacing the reg. I noticed the Fld wire connection was a little loose. I was able to tighten the hold down screw a quarter turn. I've started the...
