    Saturday Auction

Bought a 1955 JD 50 on auction about 20 years ago. Started it before the auction started. Was only running on 1 cylinder. My son tinkered with it a bit, got it to run just fine. Told him to put it back the way it was before. He did, and I bought it for $1000.00. My sister has the 50 now...

    European tractor imports

Don't know about importing. But have a cousin who has a large truck farm in Guam. Sends his needs to his BIL in the states. BIL negotiates with dealer on this end, including purchase and shipping. Says it cost less than buying from dealer in Guam.

Hauling cars trucks and tractors with a UHAUL rig - DOT stuf

What was your tow vehicle? U-Haul has a cross-reference table, looking at towed vehicle, and lists vehicle they determined are heavy enough to handle tow. Several years ago, tried to rent trailer to tow my mother-in-laws Ford Tempo from MN to FL, using Nissan Quest van. No go. Went back with my...

    There's still hope

I don't remember exactly, but I'm guessing I was about 7-8 when Dad had me pulling grain or bale wagons with the Ford 8N. There was always someone in the field nearby. In the spring I would pull a spike toothed drag/harrow behind Dad who was pulling a disk/harrow or field cultivator. By the...

    horse drawn Road Grader

Grandpa and his neighbor Leo Schmidt co-owner the identical grader. In addition to grading the driveways, they also had the contract to maintain the township roads. My job, as soon as I turned 15 and got my drivers licence, haul gravel on the township roads. Gravel pit was about 20-25 miles...

    Disk for a tractor

45 hp should be plenty for a 10 ft disk. Covered a lot of ground with a 1956 JD 60 (37 hp rated) and a JD 10 ft transport disc. Frequently had a spike toothed drag/harrow behind as well. Heavy southern MN black soil.

? on differences in A3404R wheel weights ?

Top ones with the round hole in the center are from the 50's. First number series tractors. Had those on my 1956 60. Might be wrong but I think the bottom one was originally for the New Gen tractors. Axle casting changed on the New Gen's.

raking corners with a side delivery rake

When finished raking around the field, rake a windrow from the center of the field to the outside corner and back to the center. Do this on all 4 corners. That's the way we used to do it.

Care and Feeding of Tractor Tires

Allan stated the good old days tires lasted 30 years. Your comment, don't drive them on the road if possible. Well, that didn't work for my Dad. He and grandpa farmed together and shared machinery. Problem was, the 2 farms were 12 miles apart. Blacktop roads the worst. Even gravel, which we...

The HVAC is kaputt decisions decisions

Several have replied " fix it". Doubt that is possible. It's a Goodman. I live in a 60 unit 55+ mobile home park in Florida. Many of the local HVAC contractors were installing Goodmans about 10 years or so ago. If I recall, approx. 7 or 8 Goodmans were installed. All but 1 had to be...
