    4000

The front axle, steering, and bolster, and rear wheel/tire size. SU's typically have 24" or 28" rear tires, while regular 4000's usually have 30" or skinny 38" rears. SU' also have a swept back front axle like a 2000 or 3000, and the bolster and twin drag link steering that goes with it...

4-speed to 5-speed 800 series rear end swap

If I remember right...no. it will bolt up, but there were changes with the spline count on couplers (can be worked around), and also brake shaft location. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Ford 3000? Ford 3600? Maybe both! Please advise the tractor green horn!

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the "frost" plugs. Good idea to change the ones at the rear of the block and head while it's split. Sucks to have them rust through after it's all back together.

Ford 3000? Ford 3600? Maybe both! Please advise the tractor green horn!

A retired machinist neighbor welded up and turned down the clutch shaft from my 4600 when I put a new clutch in it. 8500+ hours at that point, and many years of loader work.

    Prior 4000 forklift value?

Information on the auction site was sparse. Don't know who built the forklift. For him, it's more of a collector piece...and it was the Elenco that got him excited about it.

    Ford 6610 starter negative connection

Only one or two of mine have that ground terminal. All of mine have the ground wire attached to one of the mounting bolts. Can you drill out the eye of the ground wire to fit? Should already be close...

    Year my tractor was made

Unit numbers are formatted as number 0-9, letter A - M (but I is skipped) number 1-31, and letter A,B, or C. The first digit is the last digit of the year it was built. Next is the month, A= January, B = February, etc. the next numeral is the day of the month., and the final letter is the...

    Prior 4000 forklift value?

This is a screenshot from an auction my cousin was bidding on. The price shown is not the ending bid, just where it was before I started milking. It's a 41201 with a Sherman reverser. Serial number puts it as a mid 1963 model. I didn't notice it when my cousin first sent me the link, but it...

    4600 again

I've had to replace a couple of those short cables. With the main cable disconnected, you should see the end of the short cable spinning when the tractor is running.

    Ford 4000 SOS shifter

I still have that 4400 SOS. You could have it, if you want to experiment on it.

    Ford 4000 SOS shifter

I'm pretty sure I have a SOS shifter in my parts stash.

    Engine number decoding please.

D767848 looks like an engine serial number for a 4000, but it would be mid-'68 or newer. If it was a 1966 and gas, it would be a 192 c.i. Check the right front mounting ear of the block for more stamped numbers. There should be a date code there.

    3600 Muffler / Exhaust Options

Like Destroyed said, you already have the manifold for a horizontal exhaust. I'd go that route for your purposes . It would also make it effectively quieter, as the outlet would be farther from your ears. The factory vertical exhaust would be at least 18" farther forward. Doesn't seem like much...

Close to wrapping up 2026 planting

Grace ran the 7600 and 224 disk for me this afternoon, while I ran the TW35 with my cousin's 242 disk. With two of us going, we covered the last 20 acres in good time. I got about 2/3 of the field planted before I had to stop for milking.
