Ford 8n pulling engine
Another consideration: I've read that the 8N rear end is only designed to handle ~30 horsepower! My 8N was stock and I had the tips of some ring gear teeth come out when I changed the fluid.- formulaross

When its cold
My guess is your issue is related to the high oil viscosity when cold and the design of the 9N/2N/8N hydraulic pump. Harry Ferguson designed the N series with a Scotch yoke type pump with a displacement of 1 cubic inch per PTO revolution. Only when hydraulic flow is required does a little valve...- formulaross

JD 2440 Splitting & Disassembly Issue, Independent PTO
Sorry for this long post, but I am trying to be complete! Developed a PTO issue this past year. PTO was slipping under load and would not stop when disengaged. Replaced a broken pressure regulator spring in the PTO control valve body and now have good transmission pressure but the PTO still...- formulaross
