It rots down over the course of the year. I am concluding that this year if they plant it again i will shred it with the flail and them try to get it plowed down in the fall. I get maybe 80 percent fully buried and if the stems were cut half as long they wouldn't stick so far out of the furrow.- Frankmn

Yes this year i have plowed it.,waited a couple days, disced it at a slight angle to the plowing. After a couple warm dry days coming up I will disc it crossways to the first time and then drag it with a spike drag. At that point it is what it is I guess. Yes I believe that would work. The zero turn i have has the mulch kit on it but i mow a bunch of apartment buildings with that and would hate to break it playing in the field. The garden isn't what i would call silky smooth with with these rice clumps growing in it. I am hoping to achieve that...- Frankmn

Well the one year when i disced it down without mowing it, the crap wound around my disc axles and stopped them from turning. Had to cut it off with a tin snips and a sharp chisel. Doesn't seem like there is a good way to deal with it. I believe discing it after it is mowed but before plowing...- Frankmn

I should have but I was trying to save a pass with the tractor. Not sure it would have cut it. The disc has been welded up a few times so i am reluctant to weight it.- Frankmn

These gardeners are old school and its all hand work, no combine etc. I am just trying to figure out the best, (cheapest) way to manage the straw. Hoping this old flail mower will cut it up fine enough to bury with the plow. If it doesnt work i can resell it. One thing about the old implements...- Frankmn

"They" claim it makes great mulch or bedding. Don't have a way to bale it and its only a couple acres of it, not worth the effort. Yes they do burn it off where that is permitted, City would have a fit if i tried that, although it might be good humor. When I mow it down with the rotary cutter...- Frankmn

That might be next. I don't mind the tillage but when a guy is fighting the plow plugging from the rice, The juice ain't worth the squeeze. Doing that gives me a reason to have the 135 and the hobby farm stuff.- Frankmn
