    861 Seat

Thanks for the responses. The tractor stays in the shed except for when I’m using it so the sun shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll look into what has been suggested.

    861 Seat

I have an 861 and it needs a new seat. It had an aftermarket seat on it when I got it and I want a better seat. Any recommendations? Thanks.

    172 Governor

The governor on my 841, 172CI is acting erratic. If I advance the throttle from idle to mid range 1000-1500 rpm the governor is constantly hunting. If I advance the throttle to the WOT position it runs fine and if I back down to mid range from WOT it runs fine with no hunting. I have gone...

    oil brand and wieght

I just had a post on this for an 861. They talked (with good reason) me into the Rotella 15 40. Wal Mart was cheapest around here. Here is a link I was given. http://www.haleyequipmentinc.com/pdf/NHLubeWallChart.pdf

    Ford 861 Oil Change

Thanks again. I stopped by Wallyworld and now have 2 gal of Rotella 15 40 and a filter. I plan on making a trip to the "farm" next week and changing the oil is on my list of things to do.

    Ford 861 Oil Change

Thanks for the input. I understand what you are saying about HD oil vs standard 30 weight. My question now is: I have read the Rotella bottle and both 15 40 and 10 30 have the same specs. I'm wondering about staying with the 10 30 instead of 15 40? Thoughts? The tractor seems fairly tight, few...

    Ford 861 Oil Change

Rotella also comes in 10 30. Since Ford recommends 30 weight should I go with the 10 30 instead of the 15 40? Thanks.

    Ford 861 Oil Change

Rotella is cheap enough. Seems it is also recommended for my Honda Shadow too by many. My only concern was going to a heavier weight (30 to 40). I was told when I bought the tractor it had a fairly new overhaul. I'm not sure but I get no smoke and it doesn't use hardly any oil. Thanks.

    Ford 861 Oil Change

I have an 861 that I've had a couple years now and its time for an oil change. 40 years ago dad always used straight 30 weight oil so thats what I used the last time. I'm wondering if this is the best to use so I"m asking what is everyone else using. The tractor runs good with little to no oil...

Using 10% ethanol in Ford 3000

I use marine sta-bil or Seafoam in all my lawn mowers and my 861. No problems yet. Doubt I run the 861 20 hr a year and treat every time I put gas in it with the marine sta-bil. http://www.goldeagle.com/mobile/products/product3CC6.aspx

    861 thermostat gasket

Sorry in taking so long to update. I did make my own gasket and changed the thermostat. In case anyone is looking I used a Stant 45356 and a Felpro 35258 will work if you don't want to make the gasket. The old thermostat had a door or flap that opened, I have never seen a thermostat like that...

    Almost got killed today

It happens in a hurry. I was mowing about a month ago and ran up on a stump covered in weeds. Before I knew it the rear tire was 2 feet up in the air. I hit the clutch and brakes and it stopped and rolled back off it. It would of been bad to have came down on that stump with the mower.

    861 thermostat gasket

I'm not sure I know how to pull an expansion plug but I can do the test on the radiator. It will probably be September before I can get back to the work on the tractor again. It's on property in another state. Thanks again.

    861 thermostat gasket

Thanks. I knew someone here would have good advice. I'm having an overheating problem. It's getting hot after about 25 minutes of mowing. I washed out the fins on the radiator and its full of coolant, the belts tight so I'm going to try a new thermostat.
