    I don't think either would cause it to quit. Just guessing, the brush may have pulled something like a ground wire off. No gas wouldn't stop it from cranking.

    did you pull the spark plugs when you turned the engine? It's supposed to be tight, not tight with plugs pulled. It's a good idea to video taking anything apart.
