    Steering drag link

Along the lines of what Nordic said, I've used a big hammer (like a 2#) as a buck or support on one side and then smack the the opposite side with a 1# or 1 1/2# hammer. Might need to work around the joint a couple of times. Usually that hard smacking will loosen the joint because the metal is...

D17 Series 4 Rear Hydraulic Cylinders and Hoses

I have a cut-length of honed cylinder tubing on hand that was purchased for just this reason. I bought 2 of them and used one to make a new cylinder, for my D17sIV, which worked out great. (the other one was OK) It already has the threads turned inside for the end ring. To be of use, the end...

Please Help! Allis C head gasket - Best brand?

When ready, Make sure head & block surfaces are absolutely clean. I recommend using Permatex HiTac spray on both sides of the gasket. Allow ~ 15 minutes drying time before assembly. HiTac is the only thing we found to keep Oliver diesel head gaskets in.

    Wear on Front axle pivot

those bushings were not ordinary bronze, they were something much harder; probably proprietary to A-C

    Wear on Front axle pivot

The D14/D15 wide front pivot bushing is a replaceable part. It might be a bugger to get out. On the D17, I used a bushing splitter to chisel out a section of the side; then it comes out easily. $300 is outrageous price for what that pivot is. Your idea of building up the existing pivot...

    AC 5040 Safety Switch

If it's the one for the transmission, it IS fixable, but requires some machining. The Neutral Safety Switch is an assembly with a crimped base to phenolic(?) top. Item 16 It's very possible that the contacts within are corroded enough to not make a circuit; which is req'd to complete the...

    5040 oil and lube question

Mobil DELVAC 1300 15W40 is made for use in Diesels. When I had gotten my 5040, I had asked a local company that sold all brands of lubricants what to use. This was what they recommended. Also, a friend had a huge compressor for his sandblasting business and that's what he used exclusively...

Allis styled WC with foot brakes

Dad's old styled WC had those foot brakes. No idea when they were put on. My guess is that he bought the WC new in the mid-40' and it either came that way (dealer installed), or Dad put them on later. He did custom corn picking, so maybe that's the reason for having foot brakes. I do remember...
