This is the last time the 730 went to a Show - preCOVID - it seems like a lifetime ago.

John Deere 60 water leak (ideas of repair requested)

Not sure what I am looking at - has it been frosted, or is it a bad casting, or both. I remember some Fordsons with similar problems - fixed by a patch held in place with drilled and tapped bolts - looked ugly but lasted many years.

Running Johnny Poppers on cheap fuels (theoretically)

Water injection with my D was very effective when burning low grade kerosene - the D did not need it when burning aviation fuel.

Running Johnny Poppers on cheap fuels (theoretically)

I ran all fuel john Deeres, Fords, and Fergusons for many years. Gas(petrol) was too expensive to use. 1) the manifold design is very important - JD was the best due to very short distance from heat exchanger to cylinder 2) Fergusons really benefited from a hot thermostat - 190 maybe 3)...

    Lanz Bulldog Muffler

Both Lanz and Marshals were loop scavenge engines. They were 2 cycle with the ports at the bottom of the bore. The exhaust travelling through that particular shape helped suck fresh air into the cylinder behind it. Incoming air came through the crankcase where it was compressed before being...

    torque output of a 730d

Often the torque rise such as that of a 730 will make the tractor feel more powerful than you might expect, and perhaps more powerful than it really is. Or another way of thinking of this is that a tractor engine where peak torque is around max revs will rapidly stall once loading starts to...

    John deere 730 diesel

My 730D ran really rough when I first acquired it. It looked good so i reckoned that it would be ok and that is why I bought it. When I got it home I found the fuel was turned off. I turned it on and it went perfectly. That was over 25 years ago and it is still going.
