    850 Stuck Clutch after Rebuild.

Interesting issue. Was the engine labored or anything while it was running/smoking? If the clutch was dragging and burning, you would think the engine would notice that drag? I second what JMOR said, if the tractor is in neutral the clutch and all those parts attached are stuck to the flywheel...

Re: Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

Thanks guys - The kit I got when I did that came with both seals and no instructions so at the time it made sense since they fit well into those groves. Maybe I had an extra beer that night in all my excitement. I do have a manual but clearly missed that oil return grove page. People...

861 oil leak between engine and adapter plate

Looks like its leaking in front of the mating plate. Assuming it is just the side seals of the rear cap, you can do that easily. No reason not to try it and see if you can fix it. Drop the oil pan and then take the rear cap off (just two bolts), the side seals will come out with it...

Re: Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

Found that the clutch was not stuck. I dont think its possible to put that clutch disk in backwards, if backward the friction surface would not ever touch the flywheel. I think the issue was the bolts that ride on the release bearing were not adjusted the same which would cause the plate to...

861 oil leak between engine and adapter plate

Hi Farmer, I'm actually working through some issues with a engine rebuild that I did over the nnalert winter. Primary issue was the major leak of oil out the weep hole on the bell housing. That is clear evidence that the rear main seal is not working well. Sounds like you have oil dripping...

Re: Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

So - I managed to split the tractor and pulled the clutch off. It was not stuck and I dont think this plate can go in backwards, if it went in backwards the friction disc would never touch the flywheel. What I think happened was that I didnt ever adjust the bolt things that the release bearing...

    Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

Back at it guys. Thanks for the help. As for the rods, I actually have one thats slightly shorter than the others but its the size that would come if I bought all replacements now. I wonder if the "old" rods were not taken from some other engine. Anyway I figured it would not matter if one...

    Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

So - I've gotten my block, head and crank back from the shop mentioned earlier. It all looks good but now I need to put it back together without leftover screws and such. I did get a new ring gear since the old one did have a section with some damage, I also got a input shaft seal and will...

    Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

So my plan of simply using calipers on the journals and ordering what might be the correct size bearings is not a good idea? :) Actually I noticed a couple of tiny sections on two journals that I could feel with my fingertip so was hoping to find a shop around my area that can help with that...

    Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

Thanks guys for the comments. Ill check ebay for the tube, the shorter one is fine, its the long one that bends over the rockers thats a little messed up. The rubber tubing fix sounds good if I cant find them on ebay - thanks! Because of this nnalert stuff, I'd rather not deal with trying to...

    Ford 850 engine rebuild questions

Hello forum folks, I've gotten lots of valuable info from this forum and parts from YT in the past. I'll apologize up front for the length of this post. I'm asking for some advice from you kind people. I got an 850 about 10 years ago and its been a good "yard" tractor. Used mostly for...
