    4 post solenoids were used when you needed 12V at the coil for starting. One small post activated the solenoid to run the starter motor, the second post supplied a full 12v to the coil while the starter motor was spinning. After starting, the coil would run on 6-7V dropped by a ballast resistor...

    1000 CCA is more than you need. I typically use group 24's which have around 600.

    1958 841 3 Point Won't Lower

    I took a look into the fill hole - this is what I saw. The control is at full down. Shouldn't that spring rest against the square block? If so, then the control rod is stuck not allowing the arms down.

    Batteries can, in fact, show a good voltage but still be unable to deliver starting current. You can buy a carbon-pile tester fairly cheaply which will give you a better idea of the condition of the battery.
