Sean in PA, you are correct. It has an aftermarket power steering unit on it, but it works OK. I don t know what brand it is. -

Tractor Guru, you are probably right. If I was going to keep the tractor, I would probably put a new bearing, seal and sleeve on the old shaft and put it back together and run it until something happens, because it has been working like this for years. If something did happen I would know why... -

I ordered the PTO shaft, bearing, housing, seal and sleeve from Yesterdays Tractor. I think the shaft is the right one. I think the problem is with the countershaft, because the hole in it is too small in diameter, too shallow and it is tapered. I need to find some one who has a countershaft... -

The hole in the countershaft that the PTO is supposed to plug into is too small, too shallow and is tapered. The PTO shaft tip is not tapered and it is too big in diameter and too long. Can I drill the hole bigger to match the PTO shaft tip? -

I ordered a new PTO shaft. It has a tip or spigot(whatever you call it) on the forward end, as it should. Long term user: Thank you for your reply. I agree with you. I think the tip on the PTO shaft inserted into the countershaft keeps the PTO shaft straight and true when it is turning so it doesnt wobble and wear the bearing and seal. To me its like the clutch shaft plugging into the pilot bearing... -

Ultradog, thank you for your reply. I thought no one was going to. I dont know how to describe it but if you look up the part number C5NN-A701K for the PTO shaft for a Ford 2000 4 speed it is 32 1/2 inches long, has 6 splines on the outside end and 10 splines on the inside end and also a tip... -
