Electronic ignition - John Deere G

Hello gentlemen. I was fishing around the internet for misc parts and came across ED2H ignition. I've always used PerTronix with virtually no issues other than after going optical...it starts way better and is hotter. I'm building another puller and was going with PerTronix again. Now curious...

    820 2cylinder

How far are you in the rebuild process? I.e., are you able see both the crank throw and valve events as you're turning it over? I've never worked on an 820 but I'd assume it's basically the same as most other 2 cylinder John Deere's that I've tackled with no marks. Alignment of the crank and...

    5055E Tach issue

Hello everyone. I bought a new 5055E about three years ago. Occasionally, my RPM tach doesn't cycle properly on startup or shutdown. For example, when you turn the key to the "on" position, the tach does a "check" where it pegs the tach and then resets to zero before you start it. What it's...

    Model A Leak behind flywheel

I agree with JD man wis, you need to use a new seal. Sounds like you're good with oil pressure. Did you re-solder your shims? (Lot of guys don't.) I always re-solder and use a flathead screw driver to push the shim pack against the crank as I tighten the main bearing assembly together.

    Midatlantic Super Pull - CANCELLED!

Just heard the MidAtlantic Super Pull in Harrisburg has been cancelled by the state of Pennsylvania due to nnalert-19. (Corona Virus) This is not Brad Peters fault. He's out money, time, and effort. Hope they re-schedule. Maybe a Fall pull or something? Keystone pulls and all other events are...

    Midatlantic pull

Bringing the G. Great rules. Hoping more clubs go to them. Make more classes for the tractors rather than limit the tractors you can bring.

    1937 B Transmission Oil

Agree 100% with rustred. Clean it out and run 80-90W. That's all we've ever run.

Oil leak on John Deere 60 belt pulley

@ Bob, Yes sir I know. I was getting at Earlebird's inquiry about oil(s) in the first reduction cover. I'm of the opinion with the G and other lettered series that there wasn't really supposed to be any or minimal amounts. (Seeping through bearings, forced by water, etc.) Whenever you...

Oil leak on John Deere 60 belt pulley

I most recently put a G back together that I had completely dismantled. On those, it's my opinion that returning rogue oil was the intent. The cover was basically open but partitioned for the first reduction gear and R.H main/clutch assembly. There is a return hole in the housing beneath...

    Jd 50 no run

I almost always completely disassemble the carburetors. It's really one of those, "might as well so it right the first time" deals. If you're sure ignition and timing are good...it's most likely a dirty passage or plugged nozzles. The 50 carb also has a filter in it's housing but if you say...

    bendix binding with ring gear

Sometimes, it's as simple as shimming the starter, from inside the housing, away from the flywheel with some 16GA sheet metal. I've had to do this in the past. Made a pattern out of cardboard, that goes over the cone, and is the same shape as the ears that bolt the starter to the housing. You...

    Clevite rod bearing question

Holy cow Bob! I suffer from CRS! (Can't Remember S$%!) I think you're right! I think I remember (10 years or so ago before the rods themselves were modified) the mention of these being "619" rods. I can't believe I forgot that! I don't know where the 6030 came in except for maybe timeframe...

    Clevite rod bearing question

I hear you teddy. I thought if I could find the right ones, I'd go that route. If I can't, I may have to do that. Thanks for the reply.
