    With a volt-ohm meter, you can test the operation of the dist on the bench. If the points are actually functioning, the next place to look is at the connection between the coil and dist. Sometimes one needs to SLIGHTLY extend the tang and or pigtail on the coil to reach.

    Try gently tapping on the side of the carb with a small hammer. GENTLY! See if the overflow stops

    I have a very heavy rear blade. I run a choker cable under the blade which is about 4 inches off of the ground. This has solved all problems for me since the 1980s.

    Maybe you should run it for a year on the stock ignition and then decide if you want to swap out the system that has worked fine for 75 years? If its's not broke, don't fix it?

    "I have never tuned my tractor up..." Start with points, before firing off the parts cannon. I'll bet your points gap has closed up.

    I would pull the right side plate instead. If your oil isn't over-full, you can park on a very slight downhill and you won't lose oil. Remove the bottom bolts first. They will tell you if you are on a steep enough slope.

    Well the rainy season is approaching. Who has enough spare time to tally up all of the "12-volt overhaul" disasters compared to 6-volt reliability stats? The numbers sure don't look good for the cobblers! Any volunteers?
