John Deere model R tractor shift lever knob

I'm guessing the knurled part of the handle you are seeing is an old knob insert that is just stuck on the threads. It looks that way in the parts catalog anyway. The replacement part number for the knob is AP17808H. It appears to still be available from John Deere as well as several other...

    1952 JD A Serial Number

The square axle housing came in 1950. I assume if you are thinking it is a 1952 it also has a single stick six speed. Depending on how bad the tag is, you might be able to remove it and read it (or transfer it with paper and pencil) from the back of the tag.

    John Deere MT restoration

As others have said. Trace power through the system with a multimeter and test light. Clean connections and stuff up as you go. I bought an MT one time and it never seemed to charge right. You could jump it and it would run fine and start up and shut down all day with no major issues. Let...

1940 John Deere Model A front wheels wobble.

Bent wheels (or poorly mounted tires), worn out wheel bearings, or (probably most common) worn out sector gear in the pedestal.

    Valve cover gasket

I would agree with most of the folks there. I use an adhesive on one side and lightly grease the other. I know you already ordered a gasket, but they make silicone valve cover gaskets for A's now that are very nice and easily reusable.

    999 2 row planter

1911 to 1956 is what I have seen. If you search this forum there are a few posts on the topic.

    “G” fan shroud?

I can't say what they are used for. The parts book picture shows and older version of the shroud with no holes for the G. However, the 70 parts book which uses the same fan shroud part shows the holes at the top.

    1937 unstyled A

If you have to put a crank in it, I'd look for a mid-year (41-46) and get that extra 1/4" of stroke.

44 br parking brake retainer and felt just floating around inside drum.

I'm guessing you are talking the service brake?

    John Deere 60 Pistons

An 1/8th inch won't increase it much, probably in that range I mentioned. You shouldn't have much issue with pump gas until you get up into the 8:1 range. I have a 36A with all fuel pistons. I wanted 8:1. It took a Heisler head and lengthening the rods by 5/8" to get there. You are a long...

    JD H Road Gear?

I can't find any pictures or videos online, but I have seen trailers made out of truck rear ends that hook up to the PTO. Put the tractor into neutral, engage the PTO and let the trailer push the tractor. Gear as you please.

    John Deere 60 Pistons

Digging online I have found a few data points for a 60, can't confirm 100% though. All Fuel: 4.7:1 Gasoline: 6:1 LP: 7.3:1 The high-altitude piston would be somewhere between the gas and LP, likely closer to gas. I saw numbers of 6.25, 6.34, and 6.5 various places online. Not sure I would...

    JD part question

Looking at Deere part numbers, they have shorter versions of that screw but that is the longest one I see.
