    58 Allis Chalmers D17

    I have a 1958 D17 also. My nephew & I rebuilt the engine and I use it to bale big rounds with an old Vermeer 605E. I had to upgrade the hydraulics to run the gate cylinders on baler. It's maxed out on hill slope when bale is about full. I love that D17!!

    1963 d-17 series3

    I've had the best luck with permatex #2 (the dark grayish/green goop). It's the only thing that worked on 3 leaking head studs on my old 1940 Ford flathead? I tried all the other high tech/high dollar sealants (Aviation, etc.) The #2 sealed them. HTH Holtby

    Money's Worth from this Battery

    I've got a 2006 battery in my 1940 9N right now that had an earlier life in my 1974 C20 Chevy 2WD pickup? I think that's the longest I've got service out of any battery except my coon-hunting miner's Wheatlight.

    using tractor diesel to start fires in fireplace with doors

    I grew up with folks using corn cobs soaked in "coal oil"? I use a thin fragment of the fire starter squares and gently put small twigs and power line tree trimmer crew wood-chipper stuff and add bigger. I have a roaring fire going in a few minutes. I don't use any fluids?

    Crankless 2N

    I bought one from link_disallowed in Coushatta LA several yrs. ago that worked great, like old said, they work on the Ns and small Farmalls, same crank sold for both apps.

    I remember that fix too. Back in the day, my Dad had a Corvette repair shop on N. Broadway (US 81 hwy.) in Wichita KS, but I don't think he had to do that to any of the Corvettes that came thru the shop, but I remember that motor mount thing.

    D-17 Brake Job Report

    Thanks Tim; I need to overhaul the brakes on my 1958 D17 too. I got new liners and rivet kit, new springs too. I don't think that there's any liners left. I've used my D17 to run a Vermeer 605E big round baler these last two summers and no or very little brakes is "not smart" running that big...
