    Water in sediment bowl

There's more humidity now days than when you were young. Seriously, the ethanol in the gasoline does bind with water very easily, even humidity in the air.

    Spray in transmission

When looking in the access hole at the back of the tractor, the leak is on the far left side from the top. There is no drip or spray in the center or the right, at least that I can see. It is a steady drip from the top, not quite a stream. No spray. Any idea what Is there a way to fix this...

    Transmission Fluid Level

Also, for what it's worth......this tractor was recently split and has a new clutch. My mechanic and I replaced the clutch and seal. My ignorance will show again.....what is a clutch pack? We didn't do anything to the transmission. It's possible there is a leak in the low pressure system...

    Transmission Fluid Level

The large steel lines underneath are indeed old and have had issues in the past.....someone brazed a few spots. I was going to replace them but the JD dealer told me they were not available. If one of these was leaking, would it suck air into the system? Or would I see a spray when the...

    Transmission Fluid Level

I changed that transmission screen not long ago......just a few hours of operation ago, actually. It was very clean.....it didn't really even need changing, but since I had a new one, I installed it anyway. What I didn't change was the small screen on the hydraulic pump in the front. Could...

    Hydraulic question

Well, I say it didn't put a restriction on the engine.....I didn't notice one. I'll have to check when I get back out there.

    Hydraulic question

The cylinders will hold position when the valve is in neutral. No problem there at all. The control valve feels OK, and I didn't notice any obvious restrictions in travel of the handle. The engine does not change speeds hardly at all when the hydraulics are activated. It does not seem to be...

    Hydraulic question

The system won't let me PM you and I don't see your email. I'm glad for any advice...let me know how to contact you. You can email me at sanbog [at} embarqmail dot com. Here's what I know: It's an old tractor, and my engine quit, so we were rebuilding the engine on weekends. It took us a...

    Hydraulic question

I'm having trouble with my hydraulics on my JD 2640 tractor. I had it laid up for a while working on the engine. I finally got the engine working great, but now I have a hydraulic issue. The 3-point goes up and down fine. The front end loader forks go up and down fine....it goes down a tad...

    Replacing injector

I have a JD 2640, 4 cyl. 276 diesel. We did a lot of work on it, including replacing the pencil-style injectors. According to the JD parts book the new injectors are supposed to have a washer and a seal ring on the bottom, going into the head. The seal has exactly the same outside diameter...

    Adjust injector pump?

So would it be a proper load if I just hooked up the brush hog and did some mowing?

    Adjust injector pump?

We did not test the injectors, but replaced them all. They are all brand new.

    Adjust injector pump?

Sorry, the cam followers were returned to the same same cam lobes, the the cam was NOT reground or machined.

    Adjust injector pump?

So far, we have run this engine for a little over two hours after the rebuild. We ran it at about 1200 rpm for a very few minutes, then spent the next two-plus hours at 1500 to 1700 rpm, partly just driving around or and partly idling. Occasionally we'd rev it to 1900 or drop to 1200 for a few...
