    Hydraulic cross shaft.

On my 550 I used a hydraulic jack to push the shaft one way then the other. I had to replace the seals and bushings on it. Oil would just run out when I filled it up.

AFTERMARKET POWER STEERING KIT FOR OLIVER 550 DIESEL

There was a man on here a few months ago put one on a 88 or super 88. I think it was a Toyota EPS. It fit above the bell housing quite well. Would probably be tight on a 550. I would think it would have to sit on top of the Saginaw steering gear.

AFTERMARKET POWER STEERING KIT FOR OLIVER 550 DIESEL

Yes, the kit is not cheap, around 2 grand when I inquired a few years ago. Rebuilding your knuckles with new thrust bearings and bushings would help a lot.

What's up with this style of hub/lug nuts?

Those four bolts were added for the higher horsepower tractors running clamp on duals to keep from breaking the hub. Probably overkill on a1550.

    1550 and loader

I would hold the inner and work the outer back and forth. The levers might just be rusty or sticky. Spray some lube on them.

    What was I thinking?

Cord is a car. They were highly styled and a lot of movie stars had them in the 30's and 40's. Don't know where you live but there is a museum in Auburn Indiana that has Auburn, Cord, and Dusenberg cars from back then. Also a lot of IHC trucks. Definitely worth a look.

    1550 rear end oil level

Yes the 770 and 880 had grease fittings on the outer axle bearing, it is kind of odd they did away with it.

Looking at buying barn find Oliver 88, hydraulic valve question

We had a super 88 and had the switches on column. Those quit working, so we put toggle switch with spring return on it from napa. Need one with up off down on it. Didn't have the cylinder depth stop but didn't need it. It had a New Idea mounted picker on it. The switches on the column were handy...

oliver 550 3pt doesnt lift plow high enough

Have you checked the adjustment that the turn buckle adjusts? Should be able to pick up the arms a bit more when all the way up, by hand.

    Clutch adjustments

Reducing your pedal free play to 1/4 inch will give more throw on release levers. Those early tractors didn't have a spring loaded clutch plate. Might look at old disk and see if the hub is different on flywheel side. If you don't have a belt pulley can replace clutch without removing engine...

    Brake seals and cups, 1550

If you have help that would be better. Those cast centers are heavy. 400-500 lbs. I would put a few of the lugs back in, loosely, and go to whacking on it with a wood fence post or something. A six foot bar is good too.

    Brake seals and cups, 1550

I would take a tape measure and check the height where you put gear oil in and the bottom of the brake seal. On my 1650 had to drain out 3 gallons to get below the seal. I was able to re use the tin cups even though there were some holes I drilled in them to get them out. Sealed those with...

I'm not a fan of my 1/2 Dewalt brushless 3 speed hammer drill

So they don't unplug your battery chargers or use your charged up batteries? Doubtful. I've seen the mechanics, where I work, go through a lot of those DeWalt or Milwaukee cordless impact tools. They break in half right below the trigger switch. They last about a year.

I'm not a fan of my 1/2 Dewalt brushless 3 speed hammer drill

If you want a real drill get a corded drill with the keyed chuck and a tee handle. I don't worry about batteries dying or changing with a new model. You might say it's future proof. 120 ac isn't going away. Never broken my wrist, sounds painful.
