    Thanks for the reply. Although I noted the woodruff key, it looked like it was captive and would slide along a channel in the spindle housing. It is item 24 in attached dwg. Is there a way to remove it from the top of the spindle housing? Thanks.

    Thanks a lot Den n Ms, it seem I accidently assembled the first one correctly, 50 50 chance. Also thanks for the adjustment info. I am a retired computer scientist and the only relation to the engine is the binary number of items: 4 cylinders, 8 valves, etc. The 3 mains sort of screws it up though.

    So I disassembled the 9N engine and am putting it back together. But, I failed to record the orientation of the valve springs which have more turns on one end than the other.     I'm rebuilding a 9N engine, have removed sleeves successfully with a home made tool. Bought new sleeves manufactured by "ANVIL" and they wont drive in even filled with dry ice. Measured new sleeves at 3.368 OD, I lightly honed the cylinder bore and it measures 3.364. That's a .004 difference...
