Farmall c with 404 engine issues

In order to get required rpm for HP required to run my mower I have to extend the carburetor linkage and it will not idle down so regardless of throttle position I have 1 speed. Thank you for answering. Steve

Farmall c with 404 engine issues

I am using all original linkage , when I adjust according to the manual I get a max of 1700 rpm s with full adjustment to the governor speed adjusting screw. In order to get higher rpm I have to adjust the governor to carburetor linkage longer but then lose low idle. Thank you for answering. Steve

Farmall c with 404 engine issues

I have my Grandfathers 1951 Farmall c, the engine in it when I got it was a c123 with a bad head, I replaced it with a c135 from a 404 so I could pull my mower. The c135 runs at 2,300 rpms the original c113 ran at 1,875 rpms so I wanted to run the c135 at about 2,100 to not get too far above the...

farmall 140 radiator with 404 engine

I put a 404 engine in my grandfathers Farmall C . Neither the C or 404 radiator would work , I was advised that a 140 radiator would work. I bought the cheapest new one I could find and it did work. Now the tractor runs hot, if I put the grill and hood on it is into the hot range. Without them...

    farmall c loader

I have a 1951 Farmall c that has a 404 engine in it and a loader that I run off of the original touch control hydraulics. I am wanting to get more hydraulic power and am looking at a few options such as running a hydraulic pump off of a belt which also runs the fan water pump and generator. I...

IH 404 engine in Farmall C

Beware: I put an engine from a 404 in my 1951 C to get the manufacturer recommended 35 PTO HP to pull a finish mower. My decision was based on advice from this site. My options were rebuild and power up the weak super C engine already in my Grandfathers tractor or replace its engine. My thinking...

farmall C hydraulic line 404 oil dipstick conflict

I have recently began putting a farmall 404 engine in a 1951 farmall c because I thought it would bolt right up. Well my latest issue is the oil dipstick from the 404 engine - casting # 375596R1 - is in the same spot as the touch control metal lines from the hydraulic pump need to be. Has anyone...

    IH 404 timing gear alignment

I bought a c-135 engine from an IH 404 to put into my Farmall C. I noticed a bad distributer / governor drive bushing and when removing it some filings from it fell down behind the timing cover , so I removed it to clean the filings out. Then I noticed the cam timing gear has 3 dots on it . When...

    farmall c rebuild

Dave, Thank you for your reply. When I take the # 1 spark plug out after running it I have a couple of tablespoons of anti-freeze on top of the piston and if I don't draw it out it works its way down to the oil. Also my compression reading is low on # 1 ( only about 85 psi ). I followed...
