the good, bad and ugly of a 1660 combine

If you are familiar with a 1460 there aren't a lot of big differences, but lots of little ones. Better hydraulics, better sealing in the cab, better lights, more hp, extensions on the concaves, and the like. We went from a 1460 to a 1660 a couple years ago and really like ours. As far as the...

    Skid loader.....Case or Bobcat

I don't own a skidsteer (yet...) but have used several I liked the new holland the best personally. You couldn't give me a bobcat, the ones I have been around have been a disaster mechanically. Not to mention hard to work on since they must have been designed by complete idiots. A 70xt is the...

    define light tillage

A no-till drill would be a better option if it's available to you. I am fixing to plant mine with a 5100 white planter using sugar beet plates. I cut my rate down to about a pound/acre in 30" rows then double back and plant a legume like austrian winter peas to grow nitrogen in between so I...

NH 273 Baler springs for forks

I have baled rotary straw with a 273 and had no problems at all. Rule #1 Don't crowd it. It will happily punch out bales all day if you feed it right. If you hear sheet metal banging you are crowding it. Rule #2 make sure that hinged triangle piece on the outside end of the feeder is there and...

    Infrared temp gun

I have a Craftsman Pro multimeter with a built in IR temp sensor and it has worked very well. It was pretty close in price to the IR gun they had on the shelf and kills 2 birds with one stone toolbox space wise. I've had it 2 years and was well worth the $60ish I paid for it.

    1460 set up

For small grains you will want all the wires in. They are removed to prevent uneven loading of the cleaning system in corn.

    1460 rotor bolts

Do you have the newer style hub with the heavier bushings? New bushings took care of our problem, we tried to get one more year before tearing it down. You know how that goes... But the gearcase bearing is a possibility and make sure that "hat" that covers the gearbox is good while you are in there.

    Adding Inoculant in white 5100

It depends on the inoculant some go on dry and some as a slurry, easiest way is to get the inoculant put on by your supplier if possible. Use a little talc on the beans when you load the planter and they will plant just fine.

    385 John Deere Round Baler

How long has it been since you resized the belts? If your belts have stretched too far without being trimmed back to spec no amount of work on the tensioner will fix it.

IH 900 Cyclo Air Planter Problems

If you have the black 1000 rpm pump there is a round cover on the back that comes off revealing the pump and pickup screen or filter which is probably plugged.

    field corn grass herbicide

If the grass is growing your options are more limited. We use steadfast with callisto post on non-gmo corn with great results. Granted that runs almost $35/acre and needs to be on by either 6 leaf collars or 12" whichever is more restrictive. Look at it this way you can save on the chem cost...

    soybeans

We like 15" rows here in southern IL they will outyield 30" beans by 3-5 bu. on the average and you can get the population down under 140,000 without compromising the canopy coverage. Since we have a no-till drill again for wheat we will likely drill some of the beans if we end up with a late...
